SG trial not much to gauge from,
Steelers missing 8 Dragons 6 starting players.
Steelers have great depth.
For Steelers Ben Jackson was a standout and Charles Heidke looked good in his return from serious injury.
Marley McLaren made a short appearance and looked all class
Dragons Zallin Campbell-Cook looked good when he got early ball.

Matts game had a delay when Dragons centre was knocked out and Ambulance called, he is ok was all precautionary.
Jasais Ah Kee was a standout
Steelers Oli Burton looked good and Asher Chapman playing in various positions stood out.
Just about to watch replays now.
Are replays available for the average punter? Would love to see some of the footage from yesterday

Illawarra Steelers players to watch in 2025

Harold Matthews Cup U17 Boys coach Jamie Szczerbanik:

Creighton Meafou (second row) - Szczerbanik says: Tall, rangy backrower who can beat opponents with a strong carry or silky skills. The class he shows on the field is to be admired. Especially at such a young age. CJ already has Harold Matthews Cup experience and will be considered a leader in the group.

Mason Andrews (lock) Szczerbanik says: Mason is the ultimate competitor with a win-at-all-cost mentality. He is also coming into his second year of the competition confident that he will be one of the most consistent performers in the squad during the 2024 competition. Andrews is the player everyone wants to play with. His work ethic with and without the ball is second to none, and his ability to put his team ahead of himself makes him the ultimate teammate.

Cooper Morrison (centre/fullback) -- Szczerbanik says: Big, fast, and powerful. Cooper Morrison is looking for a breakout season after cutting his teeth in the competition in 2024. Cooper can score tries from anywhere on the field, causing a constant threat to the opposition's defence. Although the attacking flare makes the highlight reels each week, Cooper is equally talented without the ball with strong defensive principles.

SG Ball Cup U19 Boys coach Shaun Timmins:

Charlie Hiedke (centre) -- Timmins says: Powerful ball runner. Very good defender. Great trainer and a great young kid from Berry. Second season in SG Ball.

Tom Kirk (wing) -- Timmins says: Very tall, athletic winger who is a real target in the air. He carries the ball strong in yardage and can finish a try. Another local boy with a great attitude. Trained with the NRL Dragons in pre-season and played SG Ball last season.

Glad Timmins nominated 2 backs. Need a few to match the number of very good forwards in the lower grades.

I read on sufferingsaint’s twitter that the St George Matts and Ball teams got smoked by the roosters. Haven’t seen anything about Steelers results yet

How did the trails go today? Any standouts?

Dragons Matts the score got away from them but they went ok.
Jasais Ah Kee was again a standout, they'll be better with Phoenix Johns running off him.

SGB Cooper Hale looked good has grown and looks faster They had a few out in backs Sargent Wilson, Nachar, Campbell Cook, so they'll bee stronger there.
Forward are going to be a big worry.
Tarrell Indich looks like a find.

Rooster sides were huge with them throwing their money around flying down Qld players and their families for the game.

Steelers Matts won by a try or 2 with the game going back and forth.
Scissors used a lot of players, Ollie Burton with a try and assist looked good again.

Steelers head up the coast next week v Roosters and Dragons play West

You think anyone can emulate King-Togia and go from SG Ball to first grade in a season?

CJ Meafou is in for a big year.
Charlie Heidke great talent missed last year with a serious head injury.
Steelers SG backs will be stacked
Borg
Kirk
Buchanan
Heidke
Saifiti
Fitzgibbon
Reed
Plus guys like Timmins and Tomo
Forwards will had a few out to start the year so others are going to have to step up.

I know he's eligible for SG Ball but I'd have thought Beuchan would be in Flegg if not NSW Cup.

That's impossible to pick, it's just guess work depending on form and injuries etc
Lyhkan would never of played if Kylie wasn't suspended and Jesse, Nu injured.
Finau and Jake will start the year in Cup or Flegg.
So Hayden with not much depth in centres may be a chance.

Centre is definitely still a real issue for depth, there are a couple of wingers that could 'move' there, but I dont know how well they would handle it at the top level... against the games best attacks.

Thats why I thought Douieh was a bonus as a possible centre and halves depth (and lock), but I dont think that deal will get done with Ilias and Atkinson recruited, but I still think there is still probably 1 recruit to come for 2025 in that space if we can clear top30 room.
