NSW Cup Trial notes:
This was a full strength squad basically.. which means players r backing up tonight, or we intend to play our first graders guys long minutes.. rly caught me by surprise.. I mean Souths reserve grade are playing the shield tonight, and their flegg is playing our flegg team at the same time.. so like I dunno who we are playing against exactly in this trial, nonetheless:

Squad is:
1. TPH
21. Toby Rumble (I think)
3. Heidke
4. Buchanan
5. I was wrong.. was Nachar!
6. O'Neill
9. Finau
7. Kade Reed
8. LPT
10. Webster
11. Halangahu
12. Nick
13. Hutcho
Bench: 25. Hikila, 16. CST, 15. Coutts, 18. DMeafou, 23. Kirk 24. Hooker I dont recognise, think its the flegg utility, 22 is farking huge maybe its Smythe if hes stacked it on.. but I think its someone new.. 19 is a huge prop also that I dont recognise.. there are a few others also..

Match Notes:
  • First try was TPH darting thru a gap and almost going himself.. but off the back Kade Reed puts in a kick out wide to find NickyT who falls over.. Reed kicks from out side.. 6-0.
  • 2nd try was an insane (I think very risky) pass from ONeill across 2 souths players into the hands of Hutchinson who steps thru the line and gets a flick ball behind his back to Finau for a try.. hollyyy sh**. 12-0.
  • 3rd try was just the halves shovelling it onto a short ball for Halangahu to carry a few over. 18-0.
  • 2nd half 24. took over from Finau at hooker.. dunno who he is.
  • 4th try is another nice pass from reed to oneill with a cut out pass to the winger Nacahr who spins out of the tackle and scores.. reed converts again 24-0.
  • 5th try was Coutts just moving thru traffic and holdind players off and eventually crashing over.. hes obviously a very skillful unit. 28-0.
  • Souths finally got one late with a very late offload... 28-6 (final score).
Nothing particular to report.. class mismatch so u know.. but nice to see some of the combinations we will see in a few weeks time... nice to see guys like Reed & Heidke at this level also finding their way.. Reed and ONeill combined well.. Hutcho was awesome... so glad we managed to keep him patient while the bigger names moved up a grade... definitely going to be interesting to see how they fit the guys into the squad for Round 1.

honestly we must have been playing a squad from their local league or something.. and we went in full strength.. rly odd imo.. but take it with a huge grain of salt! TPH I think had a cramp late but I didnt see any injuries otherwise which was the main thing.. the big guys went off a bit after half time iirc.. maybe they will do another stint later tonight.. not sure if thats clever or not..

TPH did one of those tackles again, Souths winger 10ft tall makes a break and TPH takes him head on, kid has heart, i hope he makes it and our coaching staff must pull their hair out when they see what he does as opposed to Sloan

Thanks RVH. I don't have Bar. Not at 79 years old mate. Only joking -
Not paying $20 a month when I'm paying for Kayo. Glad you can report on the game for me.
Cheers
DD
Happy to do so David. Pleased there is someone older than moir on here. Hope you are staying healthy. Eating healthy is the secret old mate, all the super foods and chuck sugar for natural Stevia if you havent already done so.

Thanks RVH. If you suffer from COPD you will know it. Lung capacity reduced to about 50%. The result of my years of smoking. All I ever do is bring up lots of phlegm every day and it pisses me off. Other than that I am eating well - nowhere near being overweight and doing exercise to maintain some fitness and strength. Super foods is a great idea. Foods that I love. Stevia I haven't tried but might do now. Thanks for the tips RVH - much appreciated.

Now for our game against Bennett's team. Go you mighty Dragons.

The Storm go length of the field. Bummer. Need better middle defense than that boys if you dont want a hammering..
Lazy middles Young, Fililava, Ayashe were the main culprits responsible for their flying start. Dump them for the next game. Fililava is carrying too much flab anyway. After a good debut last week #7 Gardner was a non event, standing back and letting mainly Saukuru take first receiver far too often. He was also a speed bump in defense and was reluctant to take on the line. Jeez not another one.

so I spent the entire trial trying to figure out who was who.
Same here. Flegg have a pair of the tallest, skinniest starting props I have ever seen.
Carmichael
If he is a prop surely not one of the bean poles I mentioned.

Hodges should be playing Ressies. Orchestrated all our good plays.

#21 loves passing blind but has some ability.

#19 our biggest forward touched the ball about three times.

I'd have liked the tall f/b to be more involved too. Watch Gutho kid.

Well we now know what the Souths Cup side will be like, certainly no easy beats.
