We have kicked away again, now comfortable.
Has Nick Quinn been involved in any of our tries?

We had to let em score again tho. Still 42-26 is comprehensive.
I saw some early glimpses and Loko and Jake looked to be in a powerhouse mood.

Just on Sloan.. he had such a good first half.. but then the sinbin and he went straight back to the lazy stuff in the 2nd half.. maybe he got tired and went back to old habits... but it was disappointing, he is also holding out TPH who is a fullback stuck on the wing atm. Sloan has a little bit of niggle in him also which I dont mind in players but I think it comes from frustration.. and it very rarely works out well for him.. quite the opposite.... not to mention hes not exactly an imposing dude.

preface this with i know that Cup is not NRL.
Something of note with ONeill (and yes i dont think he is NRL ready).

The tempo with which he played compared to Atkinson/Kyle in 1sts was noticeable ... the speed at which he took the ball, went to the line and the speed/timing of the pass was far superior to the 1st grade halves.

To me Atkinson is a 6 not a 7 in the traditional sense, can run/pass/kick but the management side i dont know about ... Would play more the munster role in the storm system than the hughes role.

It was just nice to see that tempo with the organisation/passing .. it certainly brought our forwards and edge runners onto the ball well against the storm players.

I’m probably a little higher on Tsougranis than most but I reckon he’s a stud, how many players are as damaging with the ball in hand as him.

It’s a blessing and a curse having so many promising backrowers, 5 years ago nick probably gets a run or is right on the fringe but right now it feels like he’s nowhere near

He doesn’t look like a typical young forward with big deficiencies in his game, like in cup he looks great week after week basically which is all you can ask for

Personally I’d have him neck and neck with Egan based on what I’ve seen in cup and yes I know Egan’s been great in his small sample size in first grade

Finally, if it ever got to an injury crisis with backrowers and it’s between throwing a Couchman on an edge or putting nick there I PRAY it’s the latter, the couchmans don’t move well laterally for playing on an edge they are strictly great middles

I'm also high on Nick, as Ive said hes basically a young Tariq, that level of fearlessness and thicc body that can run through concrete.. and yes he is still quite fast, watch the highlights from yesterday if anyone didnt see him in action, he runs through 3 tacklers without even slowing down... I have no doubt at most any other club he in the Top 17 very quickly.

I just dunno what his final position is.. honestly I think hes a better prospect than Su'a, he's just missing Sua's experience.... if we can find a way for 1 of them to play in the middle (which I think Su'a did a bit of yesterday).. just dont think we are showing Nick the respect hes earnt.. we had injuries last year and didnt play him and that spoke volumes to me about where Flanno is with him.. Flanno is black and white with the players he wants.. there is no flex to adjust to the talent in front of him.. I will add in Tamale and SFinau into that mix.. Liu and Latu possibly 2 others he didnt rate highly enough.

Egan based on last year is much better than I thought.. not as aggro as Nick and small.. but his off the ball stuff.. the kick pressure..the cleanup work is immense.. and Halangahu I still dont know, I hope he ends up a middle so we dont have to lose Nick.. but I think they will wait as long as possible to make that move when he is older and tougher.

Nick was strong yesterday, some real big strong runs. He was the one who set up Lokos try, his big bust led to Sloan’s try. Not sure why Flanno persists with the same old heads who continue to do the same dumb shit week in week out. Just wish he’d grow some balls and start playing Nick and Jacob off the bench, even if he rotates each week between the 2 of them

I’ve got a take on Sua, and maybe It’s just a bit of recency bias but man for the money he will be asking to extend I’m not sure it’s worth it

He won’t make the QLD side this year with Luki/Nanai/Fifita/Finefuiaki and other options

He’s a solid NRL backrower but nothing more, he’s no Kikau/Chrichton/Liam Martin

I think back row is a spot where you don’t have to allocate huge money to get good productivity from so our young backrowers this time next year can probably fill the role and it provides more game time + a pathway for Cyrus/nick/Jake/Egan + Creighton Meafou who’s 3-4 years away

Gives us more funds to splash on a star fullback (Bula) god knows we need some speed

The way the game is being played with the 6 agains and the fitness involved, backrowers will end up rotating more frequently

I won’t be annoyed if Sua extends because he’s a solid player but just my perspective on him that’s all

He's good but the money we could save, and with Halangahu, Egan, Nick T, CST and could even look to extend Luciano on a much reduced wage, I wouldn't be bothered if he wasn't re-signed.

I personally was happy to see Su'a go end of the year (says he has a Player Option for 2027), hes a solid player and one of the only experienced forwards we have.. but unless he can play middle (which some have suggested), I just think we have 2nd row covered.. let the young bulls take over, they are almost ready now most of em.. but add 12mths to their development between now and then, that should be Egan, Nick and possible Halangahu ready by then.. injuries willing...

Only thing is whether Sua is the reason KK was coming, r they besties? I mean there is something in that.. I dont mind if he stays another year but we need to get game time to the next gens too.. not just give the 2nd row spot to Ryan or Toby either..

Anyway lets see what happens with us over the next month.. i.e. what is happening with the club and flanno.

The top clubs would let Sua go and save the money and use a young fella on a smaller contract to fill the role. Eg. Penrith were happy to let Turuva and Chrichton go and fill the space with Alamoti/Tago on minimum contracts

Spine Positions:

To my eye we can get away with the 9 as long as Cook/Liddle share the workload, there is still sufficient speed there.

No.1 Good cpt, good organiser, solid player, lacks speed but always can be relied upon to be there and insert himself in the attacking structure. 32 yrs old this season.

But it was chalk and cheese yesterday and rightly so. I have always had big wraps on Faalogo, give him an inch he takes 50 yards. If allowed to.

No. 2 Tuipolotu solid finisher, can score a try but lacks genuine speed. Doesn't have good acceleration.

No.3 Suli has offered very little in the last 2 seasons, is a defensive liability, lacks speed another who is slow to accelerate. However has good PCM.

4. Holmes would have to be our quickest back but age is catching up with him, 31 this year but he would be first picked by me.

5. TU liked the way he went looking for the ball and did put his hand up to take an early hit up. Haven't really seen him in full flight.

I’d be saying bye bye to Lawrie, Guler and Sele before I’d even think about Su’a leaving.
Clear the first 3 and keep Su’a, start playing Nick, Jacob, Dylan and Loko if he sticks around.

Front row rotation between KK, Couchman boys, Kerr, Loko.
Back row rotation of Su’a, Leilua, Nick, Jacob
Lock: Stewart, Egan

For experience wise I'd keep Lawrie on a NSW Cup only contract to use his experience to assist our youngsters coming through.

Sele yesterday was a bitter disappointment 2 runs for 15m 2 PCM in 40 odd minutes , unless he was injured he doesn't start in 1sts next week.

I am very keen to see how we operate in attack with Liddle back next week.

The way the ruck has been in games and how fast it’s moving, Liddle will look exceptional.

I’m sure mick Ennis would be thinking about predominantly attacking out of dummy half particularly with the leg speed of Hamish and the Couchman bro’s.

Every team we play in the coming weeks has poor middle defence and gives up a heap of yardage, time to take advantage

Small sample size from the first 2 rounds but Buchanan has impressed me a lot in cup

Particularly with ball in hand, his yardage carries and even when he was running in space looks way better than last year. Probably my own impatience and he just needed a bit of physical development to improve

Has a nice little bit of late footwork which made him break 5-6 tackles just off hitups yesterday and in round 1

Credit to him

yes. And Kerr's lightening play the ball.
