I said no to Dufty when someone mentioned him at fullback and Sloan on the wing, but he has improved and is way better than anything we have currently, he also offers heaps of try assists, which neither of Gutho or Sloan are capable of currently, but for next year we have Drinkwater who is way better anyway..
Drinkwater will need help, not having the right players around will mean nothing

What a contrast to our fullbacks
Dufty being handed a starting spot over Gray was a big surprise 90 minutes before kick-off and the in-form man did everything he could in his side’s 30-18 loss.

The 30-year-old recorded a staggering 312 running metres, eight tackle busts, a linebreak, a linebreak assist and a try assist in a stellar display.

Agree 100% Justa. Drinkwater is a "prolific" try assistant player. Once he chimes into the backline, he invariably is able to set up the centre or winger on either side to score. That's why we desperately need to have quick wingers and centres to back up Drinkwater. Of course he can score tries himself by backing up a half back who is able to split the defence with speed and I'm looking forward to seeing this when both SD and LM join the club next year.

We should have kept Dufty. We miss his sped and ball skills in attack which is lacking so much with us. Even his defence is a lot better now.

Jesse Ramien and Sione Katoa from the Sharks have signed with the Cowboys from 2027 at the expense of Murray Taulagi. This has been reported by the Courier Mail and has been confirmed on the Cowboys website. Taulagi's destination next year is reported to be with the Roosters.

I thought we were making a play for Taulagi earlier, and now it looks like he's going to the Roosters, missed the boat there somewhere.

This is what really gets me about recruiting Gutho and Holmes, there were a lot of smart people on here saying 3 years was too much. After all no other clubs were chasing them, when other clubs are so willing to let players go that easily there must be something in it. Plus both of them are on marquee money, who was it that said the Dragons have a bad habit of fixing every other clubs recruiting problem except ours. I'm not knocking their careers, both been great players etc etc, but Flanno had the hots for them and had no idea which way the game was going, in this case he really royally shafted us. I dont think I can handle seeing them go round for another year.

I thought Gutho was a good signing but felt 3 years was really pushing it. As it turned out, 1 year was pushing it. He along with the rest of the team, possibly barring Cook, was poor in the second half of last year and this year, he, I mean Gutho is done. He needs to retire ASAP. He's ruining his legacy. Well, I think so anyway.

We would've rested guys like Gutho & Holmes if we had competent back ups. I'm shocked Cook hasn't broken down yet, you have to manage older players.

It's about balancing quantity of games v quality of performance. We'll probably have to do the same for KK, hopefully not Sami nor Drinkwater. Although, the quicker speed of game will result in more fatigue & imo more injuries, making squad depth crucial too.

I think it's very important to continue growing our catchment area & also protecting it from rivals. Young quality players on lesser value contracts will be more important in the future. It's what Panthers have done with their junior base.

True in theory but Gutho and Holmes had the entire off season but came back playing like this.

In fairness to Flanno, I don't think you can blame him on the direction the game has gone, I'd say majority of clubs didn't know this was going to play out like that, our issue was we couldn't attract players for whatever reason, bringing in Gutho, Holmes and Cook on paper was a good idea, in reality hasn't worked out, Gutho was meant to steady the ship and take Sloan under his wing and prepare him over the first couple of years and he would take over, that has been a FAIL, more so on Sloan's part, Holmes was meant to give us that class, speed and strike power, he started off well last year, then got injured and has played busted majority of this year and it has shown him up, Cookie was brought in as well to give us that experience and get the team going forward etc this year has stood up, especially considering that Liddle has found his WT injury form now, he has played better this year than last year, it also hasn't helped that Flanno and Co didn't invest in Tamale, SFinau over the last 2 years they would have made a big difference this year, I'm actually surprised we don't try and get SFinau back, considering he hasn't played for Canberra this year, all in ll i think Flanno shot himself in the foot with his 2016 based ideology on how to win a game of NRL too bad its 10 years too late..

The backline he assembled is a slow, old, lumbering thing for any era.

I believe we couldn’t attract players because of the coach. As soon as he was rissoled we’ve made some great signings

Ai but we do need to sort our coach out to sort out the junior extensions and any market value OB's.. particularly when they have other options and fark me how did the Cows pull 2x quality OB's in Katoa and Ramien when they have tonnes of em already, they are swimming in them... Dogs will be after some to refresh their defence orientated roster... Storm know they need speed... Sharks to replace the 2 they lost... everyone.... speed speed speed is hot now. The marquees were a bit different, big dollars and not a lot of options.. some faith involved with those signings.

Rumour is that Jacob for example wont be here next year if its Young that is extended, but maybe he's gone whoever it is.. not sure where LPT, Ryan and Toby sit.
