Hi Frank
In answer to your -
"ps There is no appropriate thread for this post and was an after thought from my last post."
there is the "Other Rugby League" thread. If you go to the Home page and scroll down to the Dragons Lair Club the "Other Rugby League" is there to cover what you posted, Is this right Eric?
Yes. Frank Facer Frank Facer knows. We exchanged PMs. I know not many people look in or comment anywhere but https://sgiforum.com/forums/general-discussion.9/ but the best way to change that is to start posting there.

Not a big issue. Almost everyone has a pet-peeve or whatever the opposite of that is. Mine is that the last few coaches have been way too timid promoting young players. I just think almost everyone appreciates content in the appropriate thread. Personally I don't see a difference between this and recruitment and retention but as I said, not a big issue as far as I'm concerned.

If you want to tag someone, like this D Dragon David you have to enter @ then the username without a space. That way the person will get a notification that he or she was mentioned.

On Zac Lomax. When he was 18 he said he saw himself or his best position as fullback. He was apparently promised to get a decent crack at fullback for us and that may have indicated why he was on an 850K season long term contract. He never got a decent crack at fullback and was a revelation on the wing.

I am thinking, if he signs with Melbourne and is given a decent crack at fullback. He may be NSW fullback within the next 2 or 3 years. Edwards's position doesn't look safe. Teddy probably only has another 2 seasons left in the NRL. If I was NSW selector, I would have picked Teddy at fullback last year and have him penciled in as NSW fullback this year. Tom Turbo is 29, has been injury prone and has never locked down the NSW fullback position. I consider him unlucky not to have played fullback for NSW. If he had been given a decent shot at NSW fullback and been injury free, I believe he would have been very successful there.

If Lomax is playing fullback for Melbourne, he will be playing in top 4 team, with Bellamy as coach and Slater there to give him some extra coaching at fullback. He may turn out to be a revelation at fullback for Melbourne. In saying all of that, I wish we had given him a decent crack at fullback, when he was here. He had Dufty and then Slone blocking his path. If he does become NSW fullback in the next few years, then he would be worth 850k plus a season. Lets see what eventuates with Lomax and Melbourne?

Fletcher Sharpe is the other one who I think can be NSW fullback in the next few years, if given regular game time there. Ponga does have a history of injuries and there is media conjecture of him possibly moving to Easts or another NRL club and also talk of him wanting to play for the All Blacks. So Sharpe may get a decent crack at fullback for Newy.

Iongi from Parra is another who could be NSW future fullback. He looks like a very good prospect.

Mitchell is said to be moving to the centres this year, which would probably rule him out of being in contention for fullback for NSW.

Iongi is a Queenslander I believe

This is a copy and paste quote from Todd Payten regarding Jaxon Purdue

“It’s the first opportunity we’ve got to put some extended time into him as a five-eighth,” Cowboys coach Todd Payten said on Purdue in the Fox League pre-match show.

“He’s played five-eighth all of his junior footy. The only time he’s played centre is at NRL footy, so essentially he’s playing out of position. Haven’t made my mind up about that Vegas team depends on who’s fit.”

According to the highlights you linked to, I can't see anything in his game that would suggest he'll be a good 5/8. A good centre and might become a good fullback.

According to Payten, he had never played centre, before debuting there last year aged 18. He said he was playing out of position and 5/8 is his natural position. Give him some ample game time at 5/8 and then see what you think. I actually think fullback could be his best position in first grade and would love us to sign him to play there for us.

Up until really 17~18, a lot of the best young talents simply play closer to the ball. Did Purdue play first grade when he was 18? It would suggest when he was 14, 15, 16, 17 he dominated in his age group so coaches had him playing 5/8 just so he'd get his hands on the ball a lot. I think his best position might end up being fullback. But is he even on the Dragons radar? I guess there is always the possibility of a Payne Haas to Souths style event the general public had no clue of but it's rare.

Highly unlikely they sign Purdue, not enough sample size there at fullback at the top level + would cost a fair bit of coin when players like Tolu Koula/Jahream Bula are much safer choice to sign for not much more

There will also be Ollie Burton lingering in the back of DA’s mind to make sure there is a pathway for him down the track.

If I was predicting, I’d say we throw fullback money at Koula and a 3 year deal to get him out of manly

You make it sound so easy ;-), but ive no doubt we have been trying just that.. but seems like weve been spreading our net wide as he will be a difficult fish to wrangle..

Dont rly think Burton is someone we can wait for though, still in U17's.. and I think 1st grade needs to have a real crack at 2027 & 2028 when our stars are starting to align... and Burton could also play a number of positions.. certainly wing.... though I spose fullbacks can play a bit young cause they dont defend in the line.. though they still get absolutely creamed taking bombs... the game has become rather unsafe for fullbacks.. the way big outside backs deliberately launch mid-air collisions while pretending to catch the ball.

In that case I doubly doubt the Dragons are interested in his services. I think 5/8 might be Atkinsons best position and also have LKT. A couple more promising 5/8s coming through the grades as well. He'd be a good signing on for fullback for 3 years from next year. Gutho to revert to a utility in his last year. Then the club would have a choice to try and keep Purdue or let him go for Burton or Rokko Walker.

He might make a very good running five-eight with Reed being a playmaker though so far seems he should be further out. Centre or fullback.

I noticed a couple of posters suggesting we should sign Purdue on the other forum, but again you shot those comments down. lol

Signing Purdue to play fullback or 5/8 would be a master stroke. If Burton or Walker prove to be top line, Purdue would still be able to play fullback or 5/8.

Anyway, give it a couple of years and everyone will be saying how good Purdue really is. Hopefully in a St George jersey. He is available for next year.

Reed halfback and Purdue 5/8 would be a top pair of halves and could be instrumental in leading us to a premiership. That is what we all want, a premiership. If Acko was to be that good then we can play Purdue at fullback.

There’s some bloke from the cows that’s available for 2027, absolute gun apparently. Just can’t quite remember his name
