Other Clubs in 2026

I'm not seeing the "love" with the players at the Dogs. They seem very distant and nervy. I think they also have the Kyle/Dad syndrome in Galvin/Gould and just going from the reaction of Galvin scoring his try last night - no one ran up to him to give him a high five or a tummy bump or anything.

I am a fierce opponent of the Dogs and I too want to see them burn this year and years ahead. Ciraldo is Gould's puppet. I'm loving that things look dour with them. My sister has followed the Dogs for at least 6 decades so we have plenty of rivalry when the Dragons and her Dogs play each other.

I am seeing that not only has the Roosters annihilated us again in that traditional event on Anzac Day because of their superior roster, they, already having players who are paid good money and their combined annual salaries comply with the salary cap, are looking into the future, like they always do, to identify and lure players to the club to replace several that will be leaving in the next year or two. One such player that they are focusing on is Herbie Farnworth whose contract at the Dolphins is to the end of 2027 but as from Nov 1 in 2026, he would be free to negotiate with rival clubs and I would think that the Roosters will be targeting him for sure. He has plenty of strike power and is a good defender and fast - the type of centre that we need. Come on Daniel Anderson, work your magic.

Mate let's be honest here for 1 moment. Based on my own personal experiences you have to as the No.1 priority name a permanent head coach for season 2027.

Until then our club is in a very weak position to negotiate with off contract players. So in essence the new head coach must be announced before the November transfer window.

DA will be hamstrung to entice the quality players that we need especially in our backline. Just my views.

Yes, very true Joe, thanks for bringing this up. But, you see what I am getting at don't you? That is, the Roosters identify what positions need bolstering, who they will target and then when the time is right they get their cheque book out and sign up their man/men. Yes, all systems are a go with that mob and obviously not many players would snub their offer. It just makes me puke that they are able to keep their machine working by oiling it in the right places and getting value for money.

We really do need to get a head coach that players have plenty of respect and want to play for and signing up without any doubting hesitation. This will be an important step by far that will have the big men in the boardroom pondering long and hard over. They cannot f ck this up. All the failures we have had since Bennett is just diabolical and someone of "greatness" needs to be signed without any question and with good money offered.

I'd love to know what 3rd party payments are to a few clubs including the Roosters. I wasn't a genius at maths but some of those squads elsewhere don't add up figures wise to me.

I do get your point but at the moment off contract players managers would be hesitant to deal with us

It’s not your maths, Jo, the problem is that TPAs are the biggest structural rort in Rugby League. Not because clubs are breaking rules, but because smart clubs can stay compliant simply by being silent observers.

Take a basic example. If a player provides a legitimate service, interior design, meditation instruction, whatever to an organisation, even a club sponsor, and that organisation is using him for the skill rather than the fact he’s an NRL player, they can pay him $100k and it won’t qualify as a TPA. It doesn’t need to be declared and it doesn’t touch the cap. That’s the loophole. As long as the payment is tied to the service, not the profile, it sits completely outside the system.

Thanks for your info George. I would imagine that Uncle Nick has many friends in high places who could offer a player a tidy sum for a service without any league profiling and therefore not considered a TPA? Smart business transaction.

Back in my day the club employed family to get around it. Politis is a very astute business man
