Round 27 - V Eels Sunday 6th September

Wow, that was a nice way to finish off our worst ever season! I don't think anyone expected Sloan to take the field goal shot on, but how good was it?

Egan was outstanding on his edge and the forwards were great, big shout out to Lawrie who had his best game in 3-4 seasons even when losing his mind with this shoulder charge.

Ultimately all the players leaving had great moments today but it's too little too late for all of them, had they been more consistent we wouldn't be where we are now.

We were horrible in parts of that game but Parra were worse. Probably our best effort with 12 men, LKT played well and where has Sloan's field goal ability been all year. Anyway if I can ask of a couple of things that we must do is that we learn how to set up for a field goal, and get better a getting the ball back from a dropout. Anyway we finish with a win which was a relief, good things to come in 2027.

Jacob is still a bit young and still converting from the 2nd row.. Webster is 2.5yrs older.. its a hard one to manage these young forwards, they came thru earlier than they really should and we have to keep them patient.... LPT is in the middle of those 2.. but as Rufus mentioned.. he has size.

As others have mentioned.. rly stoked to get a win to finish the season on a high.. sing the song.. reset the losing streak and go into a fresh year with no baggage + farewell the old crew.. I rly thought the Eels would be all over us, but they went off the boil in the 2nd half.. was rly happy Twidle didnt play.. hes been tearing us apart across the grades..

Part of me is rly curious what we look like if we had outside backs that could finish things properly.. feel like we miss so many opportunities and probably we should never have been in a field-goal shootout in the first place.. that said.. isnt it nice to win 1 of those for a change.. that said again... our setups for fieldgoals have a lot to be desired.. if Moses had of hit his, who knows how we would have reacted.

Today was an excellent start for next season. That's they way I see it.

Billy Egan man of the match. Blocker was good, apart from the sin binning. It was a great hit though. I would re-sign Sloane, but not sure where he fits in. Conner M should be given another contract. He backs up well and his try showed that. Plus he is a local junior. We need a back-up for the injury prone Liddle.

Too little too late for Sloan. He's already signed for an ESL club. He'd have to be granted a release even if the Dragons wanted to keep him.

To that end, I want to thank Sloan, Blocka, Feagai in particular. Also Cook, Su'A, Leilua. Cook in particular never gave up. Also, unfortunately in the wrong colours today but it seems certain JDB is finishing up as well.

Who would have known Sloany could kick a field goal from that distance

If he could get out of his UK contract and was willing to take half his current salary Inwould be inclined to sign him.

Has improved under Young.

Has genuine speed.

Something we genuinely lack.

The Halves will be a battle Royal next season.

Metcalf/Nikorima/LKT/Flanagan/Reed/Hodges.

Centres Holmes/Suli/Fale/Tu/Sami/Ollie Burton.

Lord knows where Gutho will play. Too slow for fullback and Centre. No place on the bench for him.
