Talking Couchies... the word in other forum is there is a huge difference between the value the Couchmans manager is asking versus the clubs contract value, which I always thought was a legit risk given they are still babies, 21 and still yet to dominate 1st grade.. but on the other hand lets hope they will be 2xJDB's in the making 'at some point', but imo they need to be patient for 1-2 more years and then they can get the big money.. if indeed they prove it.. but I get the difficulty pricing these guys at their age/development.

But essentially they are welcome to test their value, but sounds like the club and everyone are pretty comfortable they are staying if we can get closer on the money stuff.. I mean if you really want to maximise ur money.. wait to play some footy in 2025.. if u play really well.. u will get ur interest alright... but hopefully they will ask around at a few clubs and settle it sooner rather than later... even if its a 1yr extension.. and we will know a lot more by then.

We're likely figuring out what our cap situation is with our immediate signings then deciding whether to front end or back end the Couchmens. I'm confident we've set the money aside for them but still deciding how to manage it in the salary cap.

Hjaltason must be playing NSW Cup... we always need some sort of 9 in progress at all times.. even if Hjaltason gets replaced by Phillips or whoever in 1-2yrs... a serious injury to Cook or Liddle and our 'depth' will look different... very quickly.

Note: I assume Muhleissen isnt there unless he has been kept on a NSW Cup contract or some such..

First time in a long time, I'm excited about next season. Basically I didn't rate Hook & was disappointed with his appointment. So I didn't hold much hope for my beloved Red V. I was also apprehensive about Flanno but he's made the right moves & is changing our culture which I thought was very poor for a long time. I've also liked his disappointment in missing out on the finals, it's set an expectation within the squad about success.

I think moving forward he needs to incorporate the younger players a bit earlier, he needs a bit more faith in their ability to be effective at 1st grade level. I'm hopefully of seeing the Couchmen twins feature heavily in 1st grade this season.

Griffin might have been way out of touch with what it takes to a good coach in the modern game but when he started, he talked a lot about "building a team from the ground up". That is, building up the pathways. Looking at all the young players coming through, I think he did that. And in his first year in charge, he did better than Flanno's first year.

Flanno’s been fantastic, don’t think he could have done a much better job so far.

agreed on the point about the Couchman’s, you’ll see them play much more first grade this year especially with lawrie on the outer and Loko Tonga progressing.

Really want to see the Couchman’s contract situation sorted, they’re the exact kind of players the club can build around for years to come

Disagree. Jury is still out. If there is big improvement over the first half of next season, I'll agree. Not yet. Need Val, Cook and Gutho to fire. Not be like RFM, Eishenhuth and Kyle. No matter how hard the latter 3 train and are all-round good blokes to have around the club. Need good performances consistently on the field.
