Round 11 V Broncos

SGI NSW Cup
I will say for Glover that he is full of energy.. he competes, hes backing up.. there is a lot to like.. kicking game isnt wonderful, and that alone I think may be a reason not to pursue him further.. but there is a lot to like.. but as a 7, its just a huge call to play him in 1sts.. like a rookie 7 is such a tough job.. and next year its almost certainly Atkinson+LKT as the halves combo.. so its a temporary gig.. and Kyle is in the jersey also.. who atleast tackles well which is something Glover has been criticised for, though tbh ive never noticed him missing tackles...

I just dont think we will go that path.. but part of me is curious to see how he would go...

Id also be curious to see how Gutho would go in the halves, but it doesnt seem feasible when we dont have a standout fullback replacement.
  1. Holmes
  2. Finau
  3. Suli
  4. Lawson
  5. CT
  6. LKT
  7. Gutho
A shame to move two of the better or best backs away from their preferred position but desperate times. Kyle won't get dropped anyway.

Sunday arvo game in Qld
Broncos lost 4 of last 5.
Expect Toby to be rested so one change in the forwards.
Does Lawson gets his chance this week.

I hope he doesn't rush sele back but he probably will, unless a lawrie or rfm replaces Toby. I hope he bloods another young forward though, Nick T would be my preferred choice. I think Lawson has to replace Sloan, especially after that arm injury. Lawson competes on everything, he's improved his catching too. Give Glover a chance after that organisation & game management debacle from Kyle.

Outs: Sloan, Kyle, Couchman
Ins: Lawson, Glover, Nick T

Likely: Lawson & RFM

I thought Sele was also good in reserve grade. Not as good as the young players like Nick T and CST but still good. Was Lawrie injured, 18th man for first grade or just dropped completely, even from reserve grade?

And apparently KF is amongst the best each week :)
You know he's in between a rock and a hard place. On other forums every man and his dog is saying KF is protected from the axe because of Dad.

What people conveniently forget is KF was never signed as a 6 or 7 he was a 14. Illias was signed as our 7 and at the moment just isn't playing well enough behind a pack that really isn't setting the platform. Hence he was dropped to give him time to actually recover from both the physical and mental scars of that horrific injury.

So what are the alternatives? He promotes young LKT who is playing in my eyes, safe football. So following the coaches directions to a tee. Hes playing with little freedom so isn't really creating much. KF has never been a game manager. So we have no creativity. Last week, KF - 4 runs for 23m, LKT - 6 runs 38m. Our dummy half Cook - 5 runs for 37m.

If your halves or dummy half are not taking on the line then the opposition don't have to change their defensive structures or readjust.

Do you bite the bullet and try Glover? He has improved this season, his running game is much better than the previous season, he is digging into the line more and possesses a decent pass with soft hands. What hasn't improved is his defence.

So the age old question, what does the coach do now when he has no real alternatives? Ahh the pleasures of being a 1sts coach.

Great post, how about this, I know its hard for a coach to admit the season is over, but in reality it is. So how about we put Illias back to 7 and LKT at 6, unleash both of them, let them off the chain, tell them they wont get dropped but you want to see what they can do with freedom. Now as for KF a stint in ressies wouldn't hurt and we can rotate Cook, Liddle and KF. We really do need to do something more than what we are doing, every year its the same thing, we are just about half way through the season and we have no settled halves pairing, do something, anything to shake things up.
