oh there are 2 x Ah Kee kids at HM level now..

Both played last year, twins the 9 is nowhere as good as his brother

the raiders HM seem bigger and stronger, carrying our players.. make a lot of our players look like kids.. couple of exceptions.. again we looked good early tho.. but the dumb stuff on top of the size stuff.. not good.. have no interest in watching the rest of this but need to finish my notes lol..

Kavana looks alright, not quite sure on this younger Halangahu, has bigger wraps than his brother I think? Like a bowling ball on legs, very short.. doesnt seem overly athletic, im not quite sure how hes going to transition, unless hes still younger..

Ditto again Luki nowhere near as good as Jake.

I picked the right job to go to.
Johns and Daley teams both had come from behind wins.

I dont rly follow the girls too closely, but love that both got big wins after an unchararistic loss last weekend.

Warriors Matt’s team missing their best player in Lucian Mikaele against the Steelers today.
Still a good side but that’s a big out.
Should be a good game 🤞🏻

What a game, that’s massive to go to away to Canberra and NZ back to back weeks and beat 2 really good.

Very very good team are the Steelers Matt’s.
Forward pack did incredibly well against their massive forwards.

That could easily be the Grand Final match in 8 weeks time

Just watching Steelers HM Highlights (video is not great either) 22-16 Win:
  • First Warriors try CMeafou should have stopped his opponent earlier.. but I think it was a pretty clear double movement too.. but is what it is 0-6.
  • Our first try off the back off a brave carry from a line dropout by #8 Scofield, then #10 Andrews.. then Brookfield puts it onto Ollie Burton who does a spin and gets through 2 tackles to score.. CMeafou's decoy gave him some space.. but if im honest..that decoy also took out the #9 Warrior who was probably 2m away but it deny him any chance to get a hand on Ollie.. no complaints from the warriors though. 6-6.
  • Our 2nd try was just a conventional backline movement..9 > 7 > 1 > 6 Humphries who puts a nice grubber through for 5 Goulder to score.. couple of nice decoy runs in there too... their big winger was just too slow to turn around. 10-6.
  • Warriors 2nd try was a long range special.. the warriors massive Kikau Lookalike #12 basically runs 60m palming or swatting off anyone in his way.. 10-10
  • Warriors 3rd try was just a nicely executed crash play for a big prop next to the posts 10-16.
  • Steelers 3rd try started out as a nothing play 7 to 6 to 11 and CMeafou just puts a grubber through (as second rowers do) and 5 Goulder gets his 2nd.. tbh there was luck involved with the bounce of the ball.. Goulder had 2 warriors either side of him.. but he put it down clean. 16-16.
  • 10mins left and we get a penalty in front.. 18-16 up.
  • Steelers 4th try was just a lovely double pump from Brookfield the halfback, and send the pass to his Winger Ballinger in the corner, game over.. 22-16. Everyone looks pretty cool calm and collected, Creighton is exchanging some final words to the warriors team which I assume he has had a running battle with.
Definitely agree with Mailhouse though, that warriors is a big side.. and were actually unbeaten before today (like we still are).. that is impressive.. the Warriors SG counterparts are struggling a bit though (0from4), im hoping that helps Steelers SG later today can put them away even without a lot of their players.

Steelers SG Ball Notes (28-26 Win):
  • Played in NZ.. against a Warriors side yet to win a game (bit like our Dragons side) but without our Captain and Halfback Reed who played in the Charity Shield.. we cant afford to drop this game.. we need to make sure we make finals with this squad.
  • 3 Inclusions in DMeafou (last years captain) who has had a serious injury for nrly 12 months.. coming off the bench & Langdon as a 2nd rower whos also been injured. Still no Weatherall to be seen. Mason Phillips the hooker is also back from his HIA.
  • Warriors first try.. Ive watched it 6 times I cant really say whos at fault, good footwork and passing, and they went through half a dozen defenders over about 50m. 0-6.
  • So this is where its interesting.. off the dropout from the try.. Fitzy (who has a big boot and some trick shots), he kicks the dropout high into I assume some breeze and lands on the ground 25m in front of him.. and Timmins gets there, leaps and takes it.. and were on the attack and we score immediately..
  • This try confuses me.. Phillips passes it to the #8 Jackson Smith who is standing there calling for the ball as if hes a halfback.. he gets it onto the actual halfback Baldock, Langdon runs a decoy and a nice simple backline movement onto Heidke then Saifiti in the corner.. simple and well executed. Reed is away so Kirk is goalkicking, the bugger nails it from the sideline.. like he sliced it and it faded.. and im not sure if it was on purpose but 6-6!
  • This is a high scoring game.. Warriors back on the attack minutes later.. its a 2on1 on Kirk basically, but he has a very clean shot at banging the winger into touch, and the warrior kind of just shoulder charges and goes under him.. bit soft.. 6-10.
  • Few minutes later they r on our line again.. we hold them up once but their prop just torpedos under us for a crash try under the sticks.. 16-6.. this is not like the normal steelers side.. they arent defending like they have been.. not fully in the contest... only 14mins into the game.. so warriors going more than a point per minute. Were giving away a lot of penalties too.. piggybacking them down field into attacking zones.
  • They put up a bomb on our line.. their bloke I think knocks it on.. but its called backwards, and because Timmo/Kirk/Borg are all there trying to catch it, there is noone out wide to stop the ensuing try.. hot damn 20-6, 16mins in.
  • Back on our line again 20mins in.. this time the pass is called forward.. geez. We have a good set though, I can see DMeafou is on finally in #20, he snags the opposition catcher on their own tryline.. so finally some field position.. we step up in defence finally.. force an error and were attacking them 21mins in.. DMeafou is noticeably more solid than the others.. nice bashing run carrying a few tacklers..
  • Few tackles later, Mason Phillips just goes himself and spins his way in to score near the sticks.. really needed that.. 12-20.
  • We make the error and theyre back on our line AGAIN.. thankfully Heidke forces an error, Saifitii gets us 15m off our line with a huge carry (I thought it was a prop), and we give it back to them on their line. Richter and Karaitani carry a defender and slam him down forcing an error and were attacking again.
  • Off the scrum, Phillips to Fitz to Borg who chimes in to add the number and boom pass to Kirk who runs 20m to score in the corner.. for all that warriors point scoring, we are back to 16-20... this goalkick doesnt even make the posts.
  • Both sides went end to end for the last few minutes before halftime, we actually had a collision trying to catch a ball that handed them a try on half time, but thankfully they dropped it.. very lucky.. 16-20 Half Time.
  • More end to end in the 2nd half.. we scrambled well with Saifiti and Borg to close down 1 try.. then they almost scored on the other edge but the ball went forward and dropped.. I cant tell you we are quite lucky to still be in this game..this kept happening dumb errors from both sides..
  • Finally after 52mins we get a penalty and Parker from dummy half puts the bakk onto the standin halfback in Baldock who uses some footwork and easily bamboozles his tired defender.. goes over 20-22 with a nice goalkick from Kirk.
  • 62min mark and the warriors 6 puts on some footwork that leaves Phillips but mostly the big prop Jackson dead.. goes thru next to the posts 22-26, 5mins left.
  • 3mins left.. they take a penalty from in front.. and.. it bounces off the upright and into play! Still 22-26. But we start our set 10m from our line... ok set we get to 40m out from their line... and on the last, Fityz puts up one from his floating bombs, right in the belly of the ball lands perfect, the winger can barely even get a hand on it.. bounces into the ingoal and Heidke is on the spot to grab his try about 5m out from the posts... with 2mins left! Boys are losing their sh** lol.. 26-26.. Kirk with the pressure kick.. hits it sweet, 28-26 on the 70min mark.. they get a short kick off but its out on the full.. Timmo has 1 last run and its game over.. absolutely pulled out of the fire, Warriors must be heart-broken.
  • Desperately needed that win, whether we were the better team I dont know, but it keeps us in the contest for finals, hopefully Reed & Weatherall back next week.. I didnt see any injuries but I mean who knows.. what a great way to go to NZ and get 2 close wins in both grades, well done boys!
  • Couple of player comments.. DMeafou did huge minutes in his return.. like maybe 60mins.. slow and steady looked good for someone who hasnt run in a long time.. will get better.. also a level head.. Saifiti is such an interesting winger, fast and stronger than an ox.. he just has a loose carry in him which he has to fix.... if he does hes a JF winger for sure. wowee!

Rewatch the game? the second half momentum changes entireley on Halangahu second stint, i agree he has some things to work on but hes still a year young

If Illawarra is overflowing with talent this year, they might think about loaning a few to St. George.
St. George #13 is interesting. I thought he was an edge backrower. No harm is playing them in multiple positions in this age group I guess.

Why do they always play SG Ball on Saturday? I know it's U19s and a lot of them still live with parents but that seems a bit old for the need to go to church on Sunday. Is it something to do with training schedules?

With Reed back, Illawarra might put on a cricket score against Wests but it might be more pain for the St George team.

Reckon this guy is not living up to his role as M C chief play maker. He is also skipper which may make management reluctant to move or dump him. Prefer his 5/8 partner Charlie Boyle took over first receiver as he looks the better organiser, also takes the ball to the line and is a more dangerous runner.
