Round 25 vs South Sydney

We haven't seen that team for a few months, very disappointing.
We had a lot out and so did Souths.

Points to consider
Thursday night game after a trip to NZ v top 4 side.
Losing 3 to HIA meant Cook Liddle Klemmer playing extra minutes in both games, even Gutho 15 minutes at lock takes a toil.
Ray replacing Luch meant we basically played with 4 middles last night.

Although the above mention played well they didn't have that energy to give that extra when needed.

Next week new game, Bomber, Hame and maybe Su'A back.
And Stewart?

Still barely a mention of our injuries even after the loss.. or just mentioning the 3 new ones from last week.. not the 3 before that and the 7 before that.. almost every position is make-shift and our roster was struggling before that.

Anyway, hopefully we can turn it on against Manly next week.. Sua back would be good.. even MMolo would help, JDB the biggest one, and Sele still tbh nowhere near his best.. but a big step up from say a Lawrie... Klem & Cook must be exhausted also, but only 2 games left.. Klem playing for a contract currently (multiple clubs will be calling).

Even the opposition coach was laughing about the Johnston try🤡.Which is actually funny in a black comedy way.
Whats one "forward pass" try when they scored 6 other ones that were not controversial RedV01"? Take that forward pass away and still it will be 34-0 so not much difference. Yes I know. If Flanno takes it on the chin then these forward passes could happen more regularly against us so he should rip into the officials.

Souths were unstoppable against our players who most have been drained of energy with the hard games that they have played in the past 3-4 weeks with a limited depth squad and the journey back from over the ditch tiring. They lacked the enthusiasm that they needed to even score a try and the mistakes that they made worsened as the game went on.

Souths were just too good last night so credit to them. Fit and eager and full of running. Now there is something in that. It was good to see a fullback running with pace - Jye Gray not a big fella but a tough nut. Same as the up and coming centre Tallis Duncan. Big turnaround I'm expecting from Souths for the next couple of years to see out Bennett's days of coaching.

Flanno was right not to make excuses over that but these kind of decisions keep happening. Personally I don't like their coach laughing about it.

tbf we were in that game right up to the forward pass.. and there were a couple of other decisions.. Kyle penalised on 'their' line for tackling just after the ball touched the catcher.. another I thought the souths catcher had no chance of catching the ball but jumped right into our catcher.. things that we managed to overcome in recent weeks/months with mental toughness... not that we should have to keep doing that every damn week mind you... but at this point with a NSW Cup side out there.. it just broke the back...

Souths had more energy and played the completion game better than we did.. and ultimately someone like Jye Gray running 350m and being a genuine line break threat all night was probably the difference.. plus a superior kicking game, speed on their edges... and their #1 prop being back.. was just a bit too much for us.. 2 weeks ago probably the game goes down to the wire however...

Note that Gutho and CT ran over 215m each, so it wasnt just Gray running riot... it was an insane match with few stoppages.

The non sin-binning was the worst of the night.

DD, it’s when these multiple shit incorrect decisions occur at a point in the game that’s the killer, the scoreline eventually comes down to fatigue, especially after last week.

Penalty on Kyle for the tackle without the ball on Gray was wrong. Crucial period, Saints have the ball 10 meters out instead of Souths kicking for touch near halfway.

AJ try. Terrible call but these touch judges are never in line with the play within 5-10 meters from the corner as they look for the grounding, so they continually get those wrong. Rubbish call there.

The non sin bin after Saints are on a big roll straight after halftime. Sutton can get f**ked, that’s a sin bin every single game bar last night. Horrible horrible horrible. Absolute momentum killer when in 2025 it’s quite common for teams to come back from 14/16 points down. 18-0 at the time, but that becomes 18-6 with 12 men for a period and Saints were on a roll then.

like I said earlier in the week, Sutton is an absolute wanker against us and Sharpe as a touchie has done us over plenty of times this year.

Last nights post match presser was probably the best one Flanno has done

Accountability and no excuses, he even said that the no sin bin call and the forward pass try aren’t the reasons why we lost which is 100% true

anyway, Manly at Kogarah with a few troops back is a very good game to rebound with a win. Their on the beach and look way off the pace

DCE’s 350th and then DCE’s last game for manly sandwiched before and after this game so emotionally manly may be exhausted which is something to keep in mind

Let it go without protest now and see what happens again when it really matters. That ref, Sutton, probably thinks we are suckers who he can cheat to please another big name like Bennett next year.

Yes, when you summarise it the way you have redv13 we already had so much stuffing taken out of us with the match from last week and the injury toll we copped but yet we get sweet effin rubs of the green especially by that ref who I do detest and the blonde lady, (I know her name but don't want to mention it plus that other lady ref/sideline runner whose husband was a ref too who wasn't there last night - just saying) they love any other team but us when they are officiating - well that's how I see it. Flanno can yell and scream and protest as much as he can but no one is listening unfortunately.

It just makes me feel more pissed off that there is no fairness when it matters.

Why the Dragons for Pete's sake. Hey Pete, are you there?

That showed me yesterday that Buchanan is just not big enough to be a center in todays NRL, maybe a fullback in the Jye Gray Mould but what Duncan did to him was enough.

I think you'll find Chris that its happened to the great man on numerous occasions as well, and all you can do is laugh about it, because they wont change the decision. On another side issue, a few weeks ago watching the Rugby Test, I think against Fiji, they actually had a review by the ref for a forward pass, how soon will that make its way into the NRL, they sure do need it.
