I would assume it is nearby to the CoE. Though that begs the question as to how the St. George side will benefit. Unless they are making one for both sides which would be doubly excellent.

There is not one good reason for it to be in SydneyIs it going to be closer to Sydney, Wollongong or roughly between?
Spitting distance.I would assume it is nearby to the CoE. Though that begs the question as to how the St. George side will benefit. Unless they are making one for both sides which would be doubly excellent.
It's better this way. Keep the colours and name but take advantage of all the advantages Woolongong offers. There is not one good reason for it to be in Sydney
Spitting distance.
This will upset all the old Dragons who probably haven't even lived in the area for 20 years, we are a Wollongong based Club now.
Apart from a few games at Jubilee which I think will be less every year all St George Illawarra operations and training are Wollongong based.
All lower grade training and Elite Academy is at the Gong, the major home ground is at Figtree, even Dragons rep teams will play there this season.
Pathways Signings in the Dragons reps also do pre season with Cup and Flegg.
These plus trialist are the players that will be in the village.
Georges River Council are extremely hard to deal with, favouring soccer more.
We have not trained there this pre-season and the Junior Reps have one game there and it had to be on a Sunday to accommodate Soccer.

I suppose I qualify as one of the “Old Dragons,” but I see the club’s future unfolding a little differently. While the football department will rightly be based at the CoE in Wollongong, I believe the broader St George Illawarra region will eventually span from the Cooks River in Arncliffe all the way to the southern edge of the Illawarra. There is not one good reason for it to be in Sydney

Well, those numbers say it all.Group 7 have around 4400 registered players, Illawarra 3300.
Dragons have 1800. 600 of that female so around 1200 males.
After age 15 there is no local competition, teams play in a combined Shire comp.
For junior Reps we have around 100 players to choose form for each team.
Reports will talk about numbers increasing but that is only due to female growth.
This is what we need to happen!I suppose I qualify as one of the “Old Dragons,” but I see the club’s future unfolding a little differently. In time, the inevitable financial collapse of the Cronulla Sharks (an organisation that has consistently failed to manage its finances) will result in the Cronulla Sutherland district being absorbed into St George Illawarra. Unfortunately, most of their remaining assets, including Shark Park, will be sold off to settle outstanding debts. Whatever is left over will be invested into the St George Leagues Club and their juniors will play in the St George district.
Our management of pathways beyond Flegg and Ball has been deplorable over the last 10 or so years. It really seems like the club is really focusing on getting the right people to guide these kids into OUR NRL squad , not someone else's. Its obvious the right resources are starting to be put in place. I can only see good things come from this.I thought pathways was already very strong. 2 teams right up to Jersey Flegg and both are generally good. This will make the club a powerhouse.
It can never go back to the way it was Jo, our history is rich and they are the memories, i've learnt to embrace the change and accept its either this or nothing for me. I put it down to what choice did we have and I wont follow any other team.Im an old Dragons tragic. Back in my day the sacred ground was Kogarah Jubilee oval and the sacred drinking hole was the Taj Mahal aka St George Leagues Club.
Alas we are no longer known as the St George Dragons sponsored by Penfold Wines. Times have changed.
Since the merger in 1998 we have won 1 premiership, but it is what it is.
Same here Jo and Justa. Need now to focus on the years ahead and not the past. The past is history which came with the good, bad and ugly. Onward Ho!!It can never go back to the way it was Jo, our history is rich and they are the memories, i've learnt to embrace the change and accept its either this or nothing for me. Everyone wishes St. George was a powerhouse which won or went close every year. Wasn't to be but the current arrangement can ensure long term success.Same here Jo and Justa. Just wanted to put it out there that I would appreciate that information I share in this forum is not repeated in other forums or facebook groups.
I've been banned or left most other groups because people don't like being corrected.
I like this group its small and all of you are polite with great discussion on all topics and my favourite topic juniors.
Also I sometimes post inside information that journalists in other groups are lurking for.
I hope you all understand
Cheers.

Had great break now back to footy.
I disagree. I will wait a little longer before I explain it to you all. I will present a very good argument too. But for now I will stay silent. I also don't want to be negative either, while we are riding a wave of positivity.there is not one good reason for it to be in Sydney
