i disagree ... more than happy to have Matts/Ball separate and pool them together for Flegg.
Why would we delibereatly halve our pool of players developing into Flegg?

i get that side of the arguement too ..
I just think with positions exp like fullback being able to consistently give 2 of them game time sets us up better ... of course if everything is a bloody shambles behind the scenes then it is pointless

We've had many chats about it on here, I used to think it was an advantage (atleast hypothetically) to have 2 feeder squads.. assuming we can recruit enough talent to make both competitive... but without a gus or politis to just throw endless money at the clubs... we end up diluting everything, i.e. diluted talent, diluted coaching, diluted resources..
i.e. none of our players are getting the best development (bar the occasional eclipse like SG2024).. and the dragons squad in particular get belted almost every week which doesn't help our junior recruitment or retention moving forward... and the steelers side is competitive but still playing at a major disadvantage to the other non-merged clubs because we cant insert 3-4 external guns into their ranks..
Don't get me wrong.. Gus would give his left nut to have extra junior squad to recruit for each year.. its his favourite hobby and he has bottomless pockets.... Politis now has the CC Roosters also.. but I don't think we will ever be that club... and I think we will lose the best young talent as a result.

Matts and Ball are age based ... 2 years .. that is it .. it is a nursery and occasionally if you get a big batch of talent you can do something.
perhaps we can get creative with it ...
If Matts is U17 ... have the U16s together at St George and the U17s at illawarra ... Next year it swaps around, the St George group tops out at U17 with Illawarra getting the U16s ... i dont know ... there has to be more tactical advantage available to us in having two clubs and double the players .. just need the structures to leverage it.

Already some good players miss out on Steelers junior reps. We would miss even more by merging.

Im not from the Gong, but for those that are and you lived say at Shellharbour or Dapto would you travel to Kogarah every Week for training and weekend to play, just curious...

Some people just can’t make it work, hour and a half drive from Shellharbour/Dapto etc and with the prices of petrol I can understand why people don’t wanna use 150 km on that drive to and from Kogarah
If your contracted it’s a different story, there’s a bit of motivation to get on with it
