Round 12 v Warriors, Sat Kogarah

We've had some shockers play for us over the years but collectively that is the worst 1-7 I can remember.

I doubt any of them make the top 13 in another NRL side
On a more positive note, our young forwards can already match it with anyone! Penrith last week and Warriors this week, not a backward step, so to speak. At least for large parts of the game if not the entire 80 min. I think maybe in the last 20min of both games they become deflated and carrying 1~7 for 60 min can't be easy on the stamina as well as mentally.

And we have one of the best props in the competition coming next year!

Bears don’t want Suli .. we are trying to shed them
That's a bugger.. I mean its only 1 more year so its lower risk for another club.. still curious if we can definitely sign someone better.. might depend how much of his money we have to keep paying... ESL maybe.. but again we probably wear half his cash leaving us what like 250-300k saved.

We are also a much worse side when Suli is out.. it always hurts us... because we dont have anyone else rly behind him currently.. in theory Heidke or Buchanan but these r hypotheticals still at this stage..

Has anyone seen any improvement in our play?
Are we better or worse since DY took over?
The team is clueless in the attacking zone, nothing fluent with our attack, its laughable, i see better attacking structures in park football
Yes and No Ayios.

The last 2 weeks we played the teams coming first and second on the ladder. These games came immediately after sacking the previous coach and conceding 62 and 44 points against lesser opponents. We could realistically have expected the Panthers and the Wahs to rack up a cricket score against us.
…But they didn’t.

No doubt the wet weather played a part in that, but our young forwards aimed up and played really well. Our attack is still atrocious, but this is a legacy of Flano’s inept recruitment. We are playing Gutho at fullback (who has been unable to pass the medical) because we have no one better. We are playing Kyle at 7 because we have no one better. We have tried others, but they haven’t moved the needle.

So, yes, in the circumstances I reckon that there is a detectable improvement in the last couple of games. It’s still not good enough though. I’m not a fan of Dean, and would prefer we look elsewhere for our next coach, but I do feel a bit sorry for him in the current circumstances. I don’t think any other coach could take our current roster with our current injury load and achieve much more than our recent results.

Sure, we could drop Gutho and Holmes and Kyle and the other outside backs to make a statement. But does anyone honestly think that the replacements we could put in right now would be better? I think our only hope here might be a couple of mid season outside back signings, but even if there were players available, who would want to come?

So… I reckon there has been a bit of improvement but all that means is large losses instead of cricket scores. Our attack is broken. We are completely unable to convert field position into points and continue to be unable to score anything north of 2 or 3 tries a game. That will never be enough to win a game because our outside backs leak too many points. I can’t see how this can be fixed.

I agree with most of this. Watch the last two weeks and compare them to the Titans game. We have improved.
We weren't great last night, but eight other teams have lost to the Warriors this year. We were mostly very good against Panthers. If we play like that again, we can beat average teams. But the OBs have to aim up.

To my old eyes in both those games to be brutally honest neither team were in 1st gear once they got the upper hand on the score board.

In the Panthers game they were ensuring their SOO players didn't get injured unnecessarily, their individual stats clearly showed that.

Last night the Warriors were in 2nd gear after going up early in the 2nd half and especially after they lost their centre.

Statistic wise, last night 68% completion rate lowest of season, avg 75% completion rate.

Errors, missed tackle there has been no improvement. Points for no improvement, points against no improvement. General play no improvement.

No doubt in my mind age and the speed of the game has caught with both Gutherson and Holmes.

Other teams are only as good as the Dragons allow them to be.

But can we agree LKT needs to come into the team? He's a better option than Kyle and Atko.

These are serious teams with standards. They don't play in 1st gear. Both of these teams tried. Our forwards were very good against Panthers and limited them. Experienced players know that the best way to get injured is to play half-hearted.

Dropped for next game:
Sloan
Gutho
Val
Kerr
Guler
Kyle

Maybes:
Ct
Tu
Atko

The backline has to be pissed off. Ditto with Kyle. Zero creativity to the point it's hindering our attack. Atko has lost all confidence in his ball playing. Some shocking pass selections but it's all left to him. Atleast he has a big boot. Put luch at 5/8th at this point.

How badly is Val playing?!

Just my observations of both games against teams that knew before taking the field what they had to do to win.
