there are a few random rumours out there tonight, that we are talking to DWZ and Taulagi, both of whom have been told they won't be re-signed.. both pure wingers which is not my first choice.. but there isnt a winger in cup coming any time soon.. and atleast Buchanan/Heidke are a chance in ctr's.. still need to find that backup fullback though... still need someone to bridge until Burto is rdy... if indeed Burton even comes thru at fullback.

As for Healey, seems a surprise they'd move him on, but we definitely will go to market come Nov 1st.. for our 2028 Watson replacement.

Tigers set to sign Averillo for 4 years $2.75 Mil

Jesus wept that’s a big contract, would have blown everyone out of the water
hmmm well that explains why we would have dropped out of the race, and annoying cause he would have been the perfect plug to all our depth issues 1-5.

also goes to show how smart his management were.. think we were offering 450-500k tops previously.. but the game has sped up and fast OB = win now.. still think its a crazy recruitment for the tigers though on big cash.. maybe they also feel like they want the depth for Bula and others.. they struggled when they lost a few.

Latu Fainu off contract and tigers consider Javon Andrews the long term 6

I’d take him for sure, he’s what Ah Kee was 5 years ago for manly in Matt’s when they won it

Just needs a good injury free run and his ceiling is so high

I think it could be similar to the Liddle situation at tigers, an obviously good player with a bad injury record who moves to a club with good medico’s and BOOM, career best form

Think Mug mentioned the Tigers were interested in moving Latu on, so they have obviously lost patience.. maybe a little like LKT for us..

Splitting up the brothers also which seems a bit of a risk for them.. as for us yeah I dunno, feel like something must be up with Latu.. he was such a prospect.. dont rly want to move LKT on and replace with like for like.. on decent coin Id imagine also... and we cant promise him first grade with Metcalf, Atkinson and Reed on our books.. definitely did look a prospect in years gone by though...

Would also be helpful if Hammoud could stay on the park.. thought he was a real prospect but every time he gets to 100% some illegal act breaks something in his leg/foot..

I'd defo go for Latu Fainu. Not only is he a good player with a very high ceiling, but the potential to try lure his brothers too could be a smart play to make. I'd do it in a heartbeat

I prefer Taulagi but either one of the two would be ok.

If this news v’landys has come out with about 2 more teams in 2030 with a 2nd NZ team and an Ipswich team comes to fruition the level of talent in the league will be so diminished

There will be maybe 15-17 NRL level players in each squad and the rest will be fringe first graders or young 18/19 YO’s not ready for first grade

Can’t stress enough how bad V’landys has been for the actual spectator side of the sport. Blowout games and less jeopardy. Much less of a spectacle for each game and now the quality of teams is reduced even more

If they eventually go to those 2 extra teams in 2030 they have to go back to the pre covid rules, too many injuries and teams will rip through the top 30 and it’ll be reserve grade players in half the lineups by round 20

We’re already starting to see this now

No denying he’s been a commercial jackpot for the game but agree with you the quality of product has been diminished in the process

They said 20 teams, which means 1 extra team after Bears and Chiefs..

Ispwich (or something including west brisbane) + 2nd NZ is perfection... 2030 not that far away mind you.. just means the average age of all 20 teams needs to come down.. puts more emphasis on that pathway development 16-20yr old etc..

I bet the next 2 teams get some sort of incentive also, esp if Perth struggle as expected.

Players are playing longer also. 20 years ago guys playing to the age of Cook, DCE, Hunt would have been almost unprecedented. Now it's almost normal. I imagine the PNG team in particular will result in a lot more talent from the area finding its way into first grade. Perth to a lesser extent. This shouldn't bring about any noticeable drop off in the quality of players. Something the AFL has had a lot of trouble with.

But after that should leave it at least another 5 years to consolidate before expanding further.

wait a sec... unless someone is folding, we only have room for 1 more team? For me its west, southwest and maybe some of south brisbane.. its way too big of a capital city to have so few teams and give all the juniors to the Broncos.... its the literal heartland of league, its expanding in the SW direction, and AFL r trying to muscle in.

I would love another NZ team but I dont see how its possible, unless we r going to 21 teams.
