Round 16: Dragons vs Newcastle Knights

GCRV

SGI NSW Cup
Only 2 days after Origin so if Ponga is out, Dragons have a chance. Assuming Su'A is out this is the team I'd pick.
  1. Gutho
  2. CT
  3. Suli
  4. Holmes
  5. Sloan
  6. LKT
  7. Atko
  8. LPT
  9. Cook (C)
  10. Toby
  11. Stewart
  12. Egan
  13. Ryan

  14. Liddle
  15. Halangahu
  16. Leilua
  17. Gular

  18. Feagai
  19. Sele
I know a lot of people think Stewart is much better as a lock but he's good in the second row as well and I'd want Ryan and Toby to start. Leilua on the bench means there is the opportunity to reshuffle the pack anytime.

#2, 3, 5 not wanted for next year. I hate to say it but I'd be sticking with Tu.

I'd rather Sloan instead of Lawson, he has been a huge disappointment. He is also not quick.

Even after Flanno has gone, we are still trying to find a place for Kyle in the team? I could kind of understand it when Liddle was out but not now.
It's not a development position. Either play the youngsters as part of the best 17 or give them mins in nsw cup to develop. We shouldn't be wasting their development by picking them as 18th & 19th players who aren't likely to play.

18th & 19th should be used on players who don't need development but are experienced & can cover some positions in the spine. Kyle & Gutho are ideal, we shouldn't care about them not getting mins & theres no development nor real benefit of them playing in cup either.

That makes sense actually but I don't think Gutho is one of the teams major problems whereas Kyle is.

Lads that Sharks game was so very important to give me a guide on how much the effort in beating the Broncos had taken out of not only individual players but the team.

I was looking for a new level especially in the area of consistency. Alas it turned out the way I feared. The lads were tanked.

We were unable to take advantage of a Sharks team missing their 7 and 9 and after their atrocious 1st half and being only 6 up.

The stats indicate our young pack was overwhelmed in the 2nd half and have reached their ultimum performance levels for this season. Its a 17 man game and you simply cannot ask those young and still developing forwards to carry a team with sub par players in it.

That does not go well for us for the rest of the season.

It could possibly mean quite a lot of losses on the trot once more. We just have too many weaknesses and those that put in the hard work every week will undoubtedly be feeling the brunt of the lack of depth and ability with a lot of the other players and become a bit too much to carry game after game and not getting winning results - its a turn off.
