But I have seen so many instances of new coaches coming into a team where the fans were ready to sack every single player because of the way they've been playing and suddenly improve things. I'm not saying win games by big margins but actually see meaningful changes across the pitch because of the coaching ideas he gives them on the training field, the systems and structures he puts in place, the confidence he gives them, the positions he plays them and the players he selects from the whole squad. I've seen disjointed and hopeless looking squads suddenly become more organised, more cohesive, more motivated. I've seen hopeless looking players improve 100%
I'd like to see a citation or two here.

Recent coaches sacked mid-season:

Brad Arthur (eels). They were 14th when he was replaced in May. Finished 15th.
Justin Holbrook (Titans). 9th when he was replaced in June. Finished 14th.
Anthony Griffin (Dragons). 16th when he was replaced by Ryan Carr in May. Finished 16th.
Jason Demetriou (Souths). 17th when he was replaced in April by Hornby. Finished 16th.
Anthony Seibold (Broncos). 15th when he was replaced in August. Finished 16th.
Nathan Brown (Warriors). 14th when he was replaced in June. Finished 15th.
Paul McGregor (Dragons). 12th when replaced by Young. Finished 12th.
Paul Green (Cowboys). 12th when he was replaced in July. Finished 14th.

I'm not saying this in defence of Dean Young, I'm just saying that this "instant new coach bump" trope is a bit of a myth. Kieran Foran this year is a complete outlier, mainly because he was taking over a quality squad who all hated Seibold. Another outlier is Mick Potter taking over from Trent Barrett at the Dogs, which really only proves how bad Barrett was.

I just don't think the lack of instant success is a dealbreaker, because it almost never happens, at least not in the NRL which is all I care about

Everyone has an opinion of Young and whether he gets the head coaching gig. There are some well thought out and comprehensive posts in regards to this, each with their merits.

To me being promoted in any job no matter what it may be. To me this has to include :
Strong work ethics
Strong communication skills
Strong Leadership skills
Be a problem solver
Self motivated
Team player

You really need to have a good positive work history that clearly defines you and your success.

Now there is a reason that people don't want Young to be given the job including being an old boy, having a family connection in senior management, to name two.

But to me my greatest concern is that Young has failed to be employed as a head coach since he first came onto the coaching scene some 7 years ago now.

The question that needs answered is why? Has he shown any success or improvements in his roles as Assistant coach or technical advisor since 2019?

These results speak for themselves hence my personal view that he should not be given the role.

Can agree to some extent , but Deano has been around the joint in some capacity and has been part of all the destruction over the years ........ If given the job I hope he does well and is not influenced by all the other mates and people still there telling him what he can't do or can do ........ That's why a Hornby ( who has had not much to do with the joint ) or someone outside the system would be for me much better ....... Anyway it's over to the smart guys running the joint 🤔🤣

I hate to play Dean's advocate once again, but, this is a minor concern at best surely. Other clubs are just as capable as we are of making bad choices, we should not be overly influenced by what they do or don't do. Plus, Young is still only 42. Typically the only coaches appointed to head coach roles in their 30's are beloved club heroes like Benji and Foran

Wow, well I disagree, Its not minor at all. Any decent employer during a promotional interview always asked 2 big questions in that interview.

1. What will you bring to the club that will benefit us?
2. Please give us us examples where you have been awarded or acknowledged for your successful initiatives or good work performance.

The first question really asks you to sell yourself. The second question really asks you to prove your successes.

Just my views

This is quite different from your "failing to be employed as a head coach" point though. Young could probably comfortably answer both of these questions given his appointments at Tonga and NSW. His fluffy interview on 100% Footy last week covers this

I wonder if King could get us a sponsorship with Westpac with Squadron looking to reduce their investment in the club.
Anyone else read the article in the Financial Review eviscerating Twiggy Forrest? Brutal. I'd be very happy to see his company removed from our jerseys

He sounds like a real POS but the crux of the specific issue is how much the court awarded Yindjibarndi people. Blame the judge and the system which favours the super-rich.
Apologies for being off topic but I wanted to say, I'm still shocked by the JDB ruling. The judge says the NRL has the right to protect it's brand as if the rights of the individual just don't exist.

Good that Doust is gone, but Young will still be the HC for next year. Had it so much as confirmed to me by someone close to the board yesterday.
I certainly hope that person is lying to you. All they have to do is look as his record as an assistant and interim head coach. My choice was Arthur or Cheika. Arthur just extended his stay in the ESL and frankly speaking, I hate to say it, but the Rorters are flying. So it has to be Cheika as far as I'm concerned.
