He done brilliantly without the best team in the squad that would be at his disposal if not for injuries. It'll be interesting to see what he does with the best, or best possible team the squad allows.

I hope it's so good it allows the club to promote a couple to reserve grade in the last 2 or even 3 rounds and still win the minor premiership. Or rest a couple who have played all season or have niggling injuries.

Having 2 x U17 and 2 x U19 squads.. we should have an advantage at that U21 combined level.. but its been anything but in years gone by.. so dont need miracles, this is really just a stepping stone to higher grades, but its nice that we have been competitive again.

The challenge with junior coaches is they usually have aspirations.. I would love to have a coach happy to stay in U19s or U21s etc and just bring the talent through.. but maybe we need to move Gorrell up to NSW Cup next year and find someone new for U21's... not sure what conversations are being had, but having him and Willie in the system has been great in recent years.

I think it’s better that it’s not regarded as some super team. There’s maybe 2 or 3 guys that I’d consider superstar level talents in the team and then the rest are solid

That makes it even better that their winning 80% of their games based on coaching and a team playing greater than the sum of their parts

I’ve seen Mug say it’s not necessarily the case because the money gets spread thin on players

I don’t know enough about the contracting and what not but from a fan perspective it’d be nice to just have 1 super team rather than a decent Steelers team with an occasional year where they finish top 4 and then a consistently shite St George team with the cast offs from other districts

The key word I should have added was: should or hypothetically ... then its an advantage to have twice the number of players you can develop... for example the Roosters have added a 2nd side, but they have the cash and network to fully take advantage of 2 lower grade sides.. the central coast is also a fair way from Bondi.

I would rather have just the 1 U17 and U19 side also.. combine the talent and really try to give the kids a competitive experience, compete for finals etc.... like I would rly prefer that.. I find it very hard to watch the dragons U17/U19's.... and I dont want to lose the good ones before they even get to U21's i.e. if they get flogged each week.

It's very hard for the club to keep recruiting enough talent into the U17 and U19 Dragons sides when there isnt much local depth to fill in the gaps.. i.e. its hard to reproduce the 2024 U19 squad.. whereas the Steelers sides there are always options in every position.. throw in maybe 1 or 2 externals and they are competing for finals.

I will say it will all be 'easier' if/when first grade is back to being competitive, and a destination club again.

Some of those who are "solid" will probably come good. Specially forwards. If backs simply aren't fast enough or halves skillful enough, only so much a coach can work with, IMO.

Then go in age one year u16 together at one club the next year the U16 are at the other …

So this year in Matt’s u14 players in saints u15/ in gong the year after saints have the 15s and gong the 14s .. move the group up together

Charlie straight into cup yay, tbh he looked amazing at cup before he was injured last year, I doubt he has his full speed back is all.. and could be rusty... just want him to finish a game healthy.

I cant watch NSW Cup live today, gonna have to watch the replay late afternoon.
