Atkinson said he would accept the relegation to the bench on the provision that he would be released should a rival club make an offer that tops his Dragons deal.

Thats the whole point of the article - my client is available, Manager releases a statement that says make my client a big offer.

Thats the trade-off to players doing well.. next contract time their value doubles etc.. could be Heidke or Reed or others also.. I am seeing quite a few players going to market this year for other clubs that I would have thought were gonna be 1-club players.... Preston is a standout imo.. Gus is the master usually of "do you wanna be a bulldog" 'ing his players into staying for unders.

We also arent spending a tonne on spine players currently.. but we probably need a genuine rep-level 7 and 9 at some point.. players on top dollar.. not 100% sure how good/reliable Metcalf will end up being... but for now yeah hes on like 900 or something.. thats not a lot for a half (esp if no ratchet)... it should in theory mean some money left for those OB's or some better depth.. we might not be able to get any for 27 though which is a shame.. I should say that the Warriors are showing that you dont need a perfect 7 to win football games.. but when you win games... the price goes up.. curious what they will pay Boyd...

Big year next year, Dean needs to show he has some idea what hes doing or the mood will shift.. I dont think Top8 is realistic, plenty of holes in the roster, its no stronger than the 16 other NRL teams (excluding perth) ...but atleast its comparable again.. that has not been the case in many years.... we are also vulnerable if certainly players get injured (Metcalf/Drinkwater/Liddle in particular).. but if we are back competing with most teams again we should be happy imo.... I would love to see us get back to a 40-50% win record.. something that is respectable.... and it will not be easy.. very very elite competition.

Agree with it all Rev, the only thing I'll say is we have a damn good pack , if not the best in the comp. If DY doesn't do something with this pack then he isn't worth it and never will be.

That makes sense.

I'd think a club like Perth could use him. Just a question of how much of his salary do we have to pay.

I think maybe 2028 and 2029 we will be there.. Stewart is good but like hes still a baby in terms of his potential.. LPT same.. Couchies will be harda$$es by then and KK still in his prime..

Actually on the Matty Johns show they were talking about Stewart making the Australian side this year, with probably the Couchies

Atkinson has been told he will effectively be a reserve next year for multiple positions and that he can go if he secures a better contract

I think that was DA’s way of telling the players agent that the club won’t pay part of his salary to assist the player and another club to reach a deal

Atkinson is only one injury away from playing first grade

He will compete with LKT as next batter up

I've never seen an axe used through our club anywhere near as much as this year is and I applaud the club for having the balls to do it. Of course when you run last things have to change but there is hardly a man standing.

Bringing Tim Watsford and DA in was the important move to set the ball in motion. We could see early on the backs were bad and a complete revamp was needed and they identified it early on and the plan was obviously in motion with Flanno in their sight along with bad recruiting on big money.

Seeing our crop of great young forwards being extended and want to stay with a team running last was a great peice of work from all involved along with the first signing of KK to join them.

The backs are definitely taking shape in the right way for next year, pretty incredible seeing where we are on the ladder and 2 mighty big salaries in Gutho and Holmes still on board.

And to think its not over, they are not willing to say its enough we wait for end of 27 for others to go, lets complete the mission if we can now and put those on notice you are not wanted.

What I have really liked about all of this is we are not sitting still and hoping fortunes change like other years. After all this is a business and should be run like one in an efficient manner.

We are acting like a big club. I really look forward to next year and beyond for once.

There is a mod in some other place that seems to get antsy with me for no real reason around this time each season, so they decided to give me a spell for a few weeks 😐

Given our exciting end to the season and all the hype/anticipation for next year, I wanted to be able to keep afloat and in touch with fellow supporters which led me here.

This place seems to have a much better vibe about it and full of passionate fans which is great to see, I'll be hanging around and contributing regularly at this rate!

Nice that you will be hanging around and to know that you will be regularly contributing with your thoughts on footy matters on this Forum I I'm Hornby . That other place is now ancient history to me.
