Just heard from a mate that Sloan definitely off to Castleford Tigers. There was a chance that he remained on the books but was offered pittance and the Tigers deal much better so that is it - no more Sloan and I doubt that he would come back to the Dragons in that the Club won't sign him up again.

Thank Suli for not taking the offer from England. I hope he enjoys reserve grade next year and then let's see how much ESL clubs are willing to pay him.

I must say though that Sloan, while he was our best for scoring tries in 2026, he didn't really bring much else to our position on the ladder. I think that Sami scored 15 in 2026 and ended up the highest try scorer for the Titans overcoming Anthony Don's all-time club record. So with Sami, I am happy we have signed him. I don't think Sloan will be terribly missed.

But I would prefer Sloan signed for next year than Suli.

There was a massive change in Sloan over the season … start of the season was terrible but last 7-8 rounds he was massively different

We can’t say that Sloan is a bloke who needed a mentor/ciach and conveniently ignore who he became when young actually stepped into that role

Agreed. If Suli was an edge forward like Jermaine McEwen and Francis Manuleleua or Dylan Lucas I'd keep him but I don't think that he has the foresight that those guys have and the tenacity. Those Knights second rowers will be hard for the Roosters to get through next Sunday.

I think it's still only $300k per club? If they qualify as local juniors we get 10% off their cap salary upto a maximum of $300k.

The problem for me is that the NRL have combined this with the veteran player allowance. So if a player has played 8 seasons in the top 30 with a club or 10 in the Top 30 for any club, they qualify for veterans allowance. What this means in reality is that every single club can maximise their $300k benefit whether they produce home grown talent or not, and so any benefit to clubs like us developing juniors becomes nul and void. The system has been set up to be of no practical financial benefit whatsoever to clubs developing players.

What we should be doing is banding together with clubs with other large junior nurseries like Penrith etc to campaign for the development player allowance to be separated from the veterans allowance under the salary cap. But of course certain clubs with powerful connections would vote against. Also the allowance should be increased massively to be of real benefit as it's been stuck on $300k since 2023.
