Ben Hornby may be our next coach, based off a dream I had last night.
Josh Hannay is 4 loses from his first 5 games, with his only win against us. The Gold Coast look like another Titanic. They have another young halfback name Zane Harrison who has massive wraps on him, sitting in garage, while they play Ilias.. How long will Hannay get before it is his fault the Gold Coast can't win?

I would really love for the Dragons to start talking to Arthur Rev. I might be wrong but he seems to be the best of the bunch. Plus we need players for todays game not yesteryears. I think DA will be a busy boy from now on. If we are getting a club cleanout then so be it, lets have a damn good one, probably 10 years too late.

Dunno where the rumour came from.. but someone mentioned that Watsford had been holding back on a football dept restructure till now, Ando into the head role there (GM of footy? Ala Gould?) Wouldn't that just be ace.. love everything about what Ando is bringing to us..
Certainly would have us moving in the right direction.. the choice of coach im not sure but would be nice if Ando and Watsford were a key part of that decision making.. not just a board call.

They are not even comparable. Hannay is a good coach. He’s just started there with a roster that isn’t his. Thought illias has doing alright too. The players are clearly buying in which can’t be said for us

Having Brad Arthur and Daniel Anderson could work - they both were at the Eels from 2013. Arthur the Head Coach and Anderson the GM of Football. That lasted til July 2016 when Anderson was sacked following a salary cap scandal. Oh dear! Maybe not a good idea, hahaha! Big dramas back in 2016 that's for sure. Too long to go over the details but Wiki has it. The Eels did not do all that well from 2013-2016.

I'm not an expert on such matters. It would just seem calling a spade a spade to me. But at the start of the year when Flanno wrote off our chances of winning the premiership, a lot of experts on the matter were really surprised. It's just not something a head coach should do.
Then his constant referrals to "not having the cattle" is something I do feel confident of commenting on. Like the manager of a company hires a whole bunch of new staff and then keeps saying the performance is bad because the staff are too incompetent. It would surely piss off those staff members no end and make for one very unpopular manager.

It is worth pointing out that these two statements were unsolicited. In soccer parlance, they are own goals. Completely unprofessional and selfish comments.

Some r saying it could be 2 weeks away (the bye after Anzac day), I imagine there is a fair bit to sort out before then.. but whether there is an 'ideal' time to do it I dunno.. I dont think we get any more wins if we sack Flanno tomorrow vs in 2 weeks cause I dont think an interim (assuming Young) will make any difference.. its more just is it easier to do it now and get Flanno out of the equation and everyone can be a bit more open and honest...

So does that mean from your perspective Hannay has 2 years and then it is his team and if Gold Coast are not winning by then it is his fault? Or will it be that he is coaching the Gold Coast, who have only finished 8th in 2020 and 2016 and not made the semis any other times since 2010 and that the Gold Coast Titans should be called the Gold Coast Titanic?
Look at Canberra, They are now 1 win from 5 games this season after winning the minor premiership. They also fit the criteria of what I am not allowed to discuss on this forum anymore. Ricky has been coaching Canberra for 10 years now, with ups and downs. How long do they give Ricky? Is it Ricky's fault Canberra are 1 win from 5 games? I am pretty sure I tipped Canberra to miss the top 8 before the season started.
We need to sign either Ivan Cleary or Craig Bellamy and get someone like Frank Ponissi as our General Manager and have Bruce Gordon and St George Leagues open the cheque book big time. It keeps getting darker and darker for us.
This is Ilias's 3rd club. He isn't a first grade halfback. The Gold Coast aren't winning with him there, besides beating us in a close game, where we play pathetic. If it wasn't for that, Hannay would be 5 loses from 5 games, but I am not blaming Hanney either. The Gold Coast probably have a better roster than we do. If you combined our 2 teams, Kinni, Sami, Brimson, Campbell, Tino, Fermor, Fotuaika would all be making the starting side.

Is this all supposed to be some kind of defence of Flanno? I don't see how any Dragons fan can defend him at this point. Only those who have some kind of loyalty to him personally, and only support the Dragons because he is coach.

No it is some kind of defence for Flanno. I am pointing out that Hannay has taken a job similar to what Flanno took. That no coach has been able to make the Gold Coast successful in the last 15 years either. I am saying that taking the job at the Gold Coast is similar to taking the job at St George Illawarra. I am saying you can't keep blaming and sacking the coaches and that who ever takes those jobs are more than likely going to fail, get blamed and get sacked sooner or later. If I was an aspiring young coach, I wouldn't have taken the job at the Gold Coast either. They have been unsuccessful long before Hannay took over. You must have missed many of my earlier posts. I have identified a pattern that keeps happening, but am not allowed to discuss it anymore.
If our new coach doesn't have us being successful in another 2 years or so, will you be blaming them? If Hannay doesn't have the Gold Coast being successful in 2 years or so, will it be his team and his fault?

I am also saying blaming the coach for teams losing, when they have a poor roster is very short sighted and the coaches are constantly made the scapegoats. But there is a recurring pattern.
I am also saying we are living up to expectations. We have been either favourites or second favourites for the wooden spoon the last 3 years or more. The Gold Coast are also living up to expectations, they were the other favourite or second favourite for the spoon this year. Last year Hasler had forgotten how to coach and was blamed for the Gold Coast going badly. How long is it until Hannay is to blame for the Gold Coast not winning?

The word Poisoned Chalice readily comes to mind here. Whoever steps in as an interim coach will still have " the same cattle ".
So what changes? For 1 there will be no extensions to those off contract at the end of this season, that is a no brainer.
Will anyone want to drink from that Poisoned Challice for the rest of 2026 only? Time will tell.
Personally I hope its not Young, if it is then let him drink for 2026 only. He is partly responsible for this mess.
2027 coach, possibles, Hornby, Chieka, Arthurs in no particular order.

Our issues will lie with 1 and 9 in the spine and enticing a couple of speedy backs. Hopefully a well respected new coach can deliver the players we need.
