Sack Flanno….

To me possibly have Brad Arthur/Willie Talau or Peter Wallace/Willie Talau but I'm sure that whomever becomes the Head Coach will want to make it his decision to appoint who he wants as his assistants.

As an interim I don't like Young and we have Ennis who has not produced the goods in attack, so I'd go for Talau. Young would no doubt be pissed off and he could quit but I don't think anyone really knows what's going to happen and how the puzzle can be solved.

If we go to 0 - 6 with Flanno at the helm this club will definitely be the laughing stock of the NRL.
A very strong chance Justa that it will be 0-6 (Manly), then 0-7 (Souths) and then 0-8 (Roosters) and while others will be laughing at us, we will be crying and bloody angry and so will the Board and Sponsors.

Two great things that emerged in late March and the start of April are the unofficial opening of the C of E (not too sure if they will be bothered having an official opening when the man who the Club has named the Centre on behalf of is in Bermuda lapping up the sun and reggae music) and the renaming of Kogarah ground to St George Venues Jubilee Stadium. None of these things did anything on Saturday night to get our players to lift and make proud of those things instead we get thrashed 32-0 what an embarrassment.

I can't stand Ennis the commentator and his constant fits of laughter at the best of times. Right now it seems like an insult rather than just incredibly fuking annoying. He needs to quit as a coach or commentator because he obviously can't do both!!

You simply can't go backwards and even consider Young. Nightmares of the old boys club come to mind. He has been there all along sitting next to Flanagan. There is no doubt he has been consulted.

This situation reminds me of when I said that Griffin has lost the locker room. On last night's effort or should I say lack of effort it appears to me that we have a similar situation, and like I said about Griffin when you lose the locker room very rarely do you come back from that.

Now if you are going to go back to the future and pick an old boy then I would suggest signing the bloke that has been learning his trade from one of the very best, St Benny, that would be Ben Hornby.

He was Souths interim coach warming the seat until St Benny was signed up in 24. I think he would have learnt a great deal under the super coach. We could do worse.

In fairness to Michael Ennis, look at the absolute f*cking dross he has to work with in the spine

A 7 who’s actually a 6, a 6 who’s actually a reserve grader

A fullback who moves like my 75 YO pop with asbestosis

A 35YO hooker who’s main strength he just barely uses and doesn’t have the same athleticism as he did 8 years ago

Ryan Carr got 6 good games out of them at the start of 2025 and then once the opposition worked out the shape and structure we averaged 17 points a game which was the worst in the league

Defence is something which for the most part can be good regardless of personnel if there’s good systems in place + attitude is up to scratch

Our season has become like the titans with Hasler last year, cut the cord early and appoint a coach to give them MAXIMUM time to prepare for 2027

Wayne Bennett doesn’t have a great track record of promoting coaches (Steve Price, Jason Demetrieu) and he is seeming to bang on about Dean Young. He doesn’t seem to speak about Hornby probably because he wants him to stay as his assistant. We should be going for Hornby

We have such a bad history with old boy coaches. Apart from that, it seems like a solid pick.

Reed saying that it wont just be the coach axed.. its gonna be more wide-spread, NFI who else they would have in mind tbh...
From what I gathered it sounded like his opinion that we’ll cull wider than the coach but was sorta vague on what or who else. Didn’t sound like concrete intel

Seems like it’ll be the ‘football’ staff

And on the point of old boy coaches, I can’t recall what clubs in recent memory have had one where it was a success apart from Ricky Stuart at Canberra and Hasler’s first stint with manly

The coaching tree atm is slim pickings, it’s sort of anyone’s guess really for who gets the job

They need to focus on the staff around the coach being elite too. You get what you pay for and if you skimp out and take shortcuts with your football staff you tend to get bang average results or worse

Look at Melbourne and roosters coaching staff, it’s a genuine who’s who of good former players just dropping golden nuggets of information to players and relaying the best ways to do certain things, sounds like that wouldn’t be a bad thing aye

Hope Reed's comments were based on something more than just assumption.. but Reed has been into us for years but we have over-delivered vs our roster quality.... but this is the first time we have really fallen under a bus and delivered on the spoon promise.. and then some... I mean genuinely will we win again?

It is a good opportunity to make more wide-spread reform though, great time to shift Haran out too, hes the GM of footy and has been avoiding the publicity for far too long.. easy to justify that... and the coaching assistants I cant see changing, Young is son of a board member.. Ennis I dont think has done anything wrong hes only just arrived.. unless he wants to go to Manly as coach or assistant under Foran...

There are other changes with lower grade coaches that need to change, but that's completely separate to this..

Ando will probably be making some decisions on external recruitment from now on.. and it sounds like Drinkwater and/or Fuller are already underway if not done.. but I doubt he will go 'too' far until they sort out the coach, cause you want to give the coach some room to bring guys in.. but probably smart to hold off on a lot of the fringe extensions.. I still think Cook is decent, and I assume the 21yr old we were chasing fell thru.. but I can understand the hesitation.. I dont think I'd be extending anybody else bar guys like couchies/halangahu.. all those fringe guys I wouldnt.. we should have enough time to improve those spots given we have all year now... problem of course is we will struggle to sign anything when we cant win games... it will be fine once we have a 2027 coach named that people can get excited about.. we need to pray on that hype (whether false or not) that new coaches get before a ball is kicked.
