The ambiguity on Loko is a worry, has he just put his feet up after getting engaged? Wish I was a fly on the wall

Benji Marshall was made of paper early in his career. Reached his full physical potential and was made of steel. Hope these two follow a similar path.

100%... iirc Mug said Heidki's contract status would be on the back of him playing some consistent football this year.. or words to that effect... and Daniel has played even less than Heidke in recent years.

It's something I started noticing when I was young and would watch Minichello play, his tiny slender body would get the life beaten out of it every single week.. but he never seemed to get injured..... its like his joints were literally made of rubber.. and then there were guys like Kyle Stanley where every every thing possible would go wrong.. and every other player in between.

But the point is that talent is not enough to make it in the NRL.. you need a) a sh*t load of luck, b) you need a body can that get bent backwards and pumbled without causing you serious injury... and c) in the modern game you also need a chin that can resist concussions or that will rob you of your career as well.

i.e. I don't think fans put enough value in a players ability to play 27+ rounds a year.. which imo is well worth giving up some highlight reel moments for, its almost impossible to compete for a premiership unless you can keep your best squad on the field.

100% there TR. There are not that many players come away from games without some small or large injury in a year of footy. I just hate seeing one of our so called marquees get injured and out for months and of course any of our players for that matter. Some players are just plain injury prone unfortunately but I hope that it doesn't turn our younger ones off the game.

Match Notes (NSW Cup Trial):

• 2 Early mistakes from Nick.. wonder if that's related to not being on the vegas plane (one of 2 Top30 players that didn't go).. lost balls in his carries.. they've put him at right ctr for some reason.. after the 2nd error though, seems they've moved him in to the 2nd row.
• No Heidke which is a concern (hope not injured)... no Loko either.. very much more concern.
• These dogs are so grubby.. the ball keeps 'suddenly popping out' of a near completed tackle with 3 men in it.. sometimes up to 5m away.. and its being judged as our error.
• try each way nothing special in the early game. then a nice ball from Reed to Coutts who is now on at left 2nd row.. easy try. 12-4.
• Webster has been solid as the kind of alpha prop in the wake of no Liu and no Loko etc.
• Nice 30-20 from O'Neill before half time, and after a repeat set we go in with a nice Reed > ONeill > TPH Long Ball > Kirk.. just fast enough to get it into the corner.. casual side line conversion from Reed 18-4 Half time.
• *ONeill puts Kirk away again with a cut out ball, will be a good addition to the cup squad I feel.. not sure he will ever step up though.. 22-4.
• nice lil move from reed to put hutcho into space.. great run and off the back Shadi Hammoud scores from right ctr.. nice to see the kid back and find a place for him.. though doubt he can fit once everyone else returns.. maybe jersey flegg. 26-8.
• Meh charge down off Reeds boot (made a huge noise) and they get a cheap try 26-14.
• Saifiti Jr leaps and takes a bomb (very good take) from ONeill and keeps running to the tryline 32-14.
• This ref is ridiculous.. they keep using their dirty tactics on TPH, kid gets hammered with crushers and foul play and none of them have been called... a bit like dufty used to cop... and the ref does nothing.. now its erupting into a melee. 1 from each side to the bin on full time whistle. 32-14 win.

Had my first look at Jet Lui tonight playing for the Gold Coast. He has some size about him, which we have dearly lacked over the years. Just on sight, I think we should have held onto him.
