That try came from a pass that did not need pushing by Stanley-Trail
Cheers Rev. Was great hearing Jack commentate the game on bar tv, good to hear him.Match Notes (NSW Cup):
- Back after the bye and a our first loss the week prior.. and the Red V Podcasts very own Jack Clifton back on the commentary feels good!
- TPH back into fullback for the 2nd time this year (was going to be Feagai but he played 1st grade), halves of LKT & Reed, LPT & Kerr starting props, CST & Treweek into starting 2nd row and Halangahu @13, a very strong pack.. with a few new faces also who often play flegg. Forwards like Webster, DMeafou and Hutcho on the bench.. yikes. Few flegg kids up due to injuries in there also however.
- 9min - Been a bit of softening up but we've had the most attacking possession.. finally here we score from our own half.. Kerr with a late offload to HFinau (who's been rly dangerous) who scoots downfield, has LKT inside him and TPH outside.. LKT gets it, draws the fullback and away to TPH still in support who has the speed to run the last 30m to score.. gorgeous 6-0.
- 16min - CST bends them back and next play.. Reed runs to the line gets a pass to LKT who didges the centre trying to tackle him and gets like an underarm pass away to Treweek who is there in support.. Treweek is fending a player away and gets a ball back inside to LKT.. draws the fullback and passes to Reed who streaks away for a try.. geez what a team effort.. everyone supporting each other. 12-0.
- 19mins - Back in attack again, this time just a conventional attacking bomb 10m from the opposition line.. Kirk (Tall big bodied winger) catches it pretty easy and tosses it back for Treweek who is supporting yet again.. throws a quick dummy and just goes himself.. 18-0.
- 23min - Obviously have the ascendancy atm.. from just our side of halfway, its again Reed to LKT who runs himself again, beats the first tackler. away to CST in support.. back to LKT back to Reed.. feel like a couple of those were slightly forward.. but big lead forming now 24-0.
- 25min - Viliame Fifita gets Reed a little high (old mates) off the penalty, Reed again to LKT who is running completely differently to anything I've seen this year.. lobs a pass over 2 teammates and just catches the outstretched mitt of Kirk who is like 2m tall or something.. but hes in wide open space.. try in the corner... Reed from the touchline... 30-0.
- 36min - very mild Hip drop on Kerr not picked up by refs.. drops the ball in the process.. and it costs us.. Walsh with a nice grubber and the manly centre easily gets there to score. 30-6. HALF-TIME.
- Playing very adventurously.. lots of offloads and pushed passes.. fair few errors mixed in but obviously by far the better side still.
- 51min - LKT his 2nd effort in 2 plays into dummy half cuts out 2 and Afu easily scores, we had a huge overlap.. but the energy in LKT is very noticeable. 34-6. Hutcho gone off HIA I think.
- 56min - pushing them again all the usual names.. Halangahu eventually steamrolls them and plonks it down 40-6.
- 70min - LPT breaks thru with a big charge.. next play Reed with a chip that lands perfectly in the in goal for Webster to put his hands on.. nice finish.. 46-6.
- 74min - CST pushes an offload near our line.. silly.. Manly off the scrum, Walsh throws a long cut-out ball which the winger cant quite catch but manages to grubber it perfectly into the in-goal instead.. TPH shepherds it behind the in goal but somehow the manly winger pulls it back and grounds it.. but there was 2 manly players offside in this.. so the whole thing was b/s.. regardless... 46-12.
- 78min - Ridiculous late offload/flick from Kerr to LPT.. runs over poor Faulalo to score himself.. 52-12.
- I mean take what u will from such a dominant win, but hopefully Flanno is gone and we can at least have Halangahu and LPT into the first grade squad.. Shane believes what he believe.. and veteran >>> all.. short term >>> medium term.... hes just not the man for the modern game and its damaging our future.. we need to start developing some of these young forwards before they leave us end of year.
I was watching the game looking at the mindset of some of those you mention especially Reed, LPT and Halangahu and what I saw , to me, was I might not be ready for week in week out in 1sts but Im sticking my hand up to say look at me, Im here, give me a go. I liked the look of Webster as well. We seem to have an embarrassment of riches coming through our engine roomMatch Notes (NSW Cup):

to be fair I rly do get the way Flanno thinks.. and I was happy to back him for a long time... He is hardened from a time decades ago.. where experience and steady grinding wins u NRL games.. it sort of is still true but only with a gun roster of 25-30yr old rep players.. numerous other clubs are showing that the faster game brings athletes and younger guys into the equation.. and we don't have the luxury of recruiting origin stars.. we need to bring the age of our roster down and rely on younger legs... and we need to fix our nsw cup outside backs also.. Im not in love with any of them currently.. like there is noone pushing up in that space.. this is not ok.Cheers Rev. Was great hearing Jack commentate the game on bar tv, good to hear him.
From the pc last night, If you ask Flanno, there’s no one good enough knocking on the door from the reserve grade team to replace the current players. What a slap in the face to Halangahu, LPT, Buchanan, Tsougranis, Reed etc etc.
Too many good forwards not enough good backsto be fair I rly do get the way Flanno thinks.. and I was happy to back him for a long time... Flannos not gonna change though (2025 was evidence and 2026 couldn't be clearer).. and hes done a lot of damage with the recruits he 'didnt buy' for this season.. like a lot... and on top of that I bet there is not a single young bloke in our system feeling optimistic about his development under Flanno.. those are huge alarm bells for years to come.. it was really hard to get those 3 big forwards to come here, develop them into fringe first graders, we lost 1 already and could lose the other 2 within 12mths.. need a coach with a totally different attitude that the players want to play for and feel like they could be selected into 1sts.. also someone who can work closely with Ando on reshaping this roster.
Agree mate. 1 to 5 needs a big revamp. I could live with Holmes moving to the wing. I’m think this whole Drinkwater chat, has a smell of AFB about it…Too many good forwards not enough good backs
His manager is using use as bait to get maximum money from the market. Why would he even consider coming down from Townsville to Wollongong?Agree mate. 1 to 5 needs a big revamp. I could live with Holmes moving to the wing. I’m think this whole Drinkwater chat, has a smell of AFB about it…
Because they don't have any cap room and have earmarked the dude they just re-signed to play fullback from next year? His manager is using use as bait to get maximum money from the market. Why would he even consider coming down from Townsville to Wollongong?
I reckon he isn’t coming. His manager is using use as bait to get maximum money from the market. Why would he even consider coming down from Townsville to Wollongong?
It's a hard situation for DA. Burton is earmarked to play fullback sooner rather than later but Drinkwater probably wants a long term deal.I reckon he isn’t coming.
The last thing we need atm is to be gouged, lets hope DA has a good handle on this.I reckon he isn’t coming.
I understand that but I would say the Bears would be 1st cab and if he wants to ice his career money wise join the Chiefs in 28Because they don't have any cap room and have earmarked the dude they just re-signed to play fullback from next year?
Why did he need to as 18th man?Nick Quinn didnt get on the park again Willie Talau.
In a perfect world he would join us next year then go to the Chiefs for his retirement package while Burton becomes our full-time fullback from 2028.I understand that but I would say the Bears would be 1st cab and if he wants to ice his career money wise join the Chiefs in 28
