Intended this to be a couple of short notes...but it was an epic game..
  • Crazy game early, errors from both sides and the ref has been rly good for once, calling everything that's done wrong including forward passes.. has saved us a few times from warriors raids.. cost us one with Hodges to Saifiti in the corner judged forward.. but ultimately we rly haven't had the class to capitalise on their errors, for example at one point Borg through a cut out pass that went metres over the sideline, but.. we have defended like maniacs.. and held these huge warriors boys out for long periods...
  • 17min: Ok finally Maclaren (the 7) stuck with it on the 5th and runs himself.. goes through and gets a late pass off to CMeafou to Hodges.. nice to finally capitalise! Brutal game 4-0.
  • 22min: So we have given away 3 penalties in a row on this set, ref I think is squaring up after our try cause the 2nd one should have been a penalty to us for an incorrect play the ball.. the 3rd one is bl*ddy Weatherall again giving the ref a gobfull.. this is not the first time this year... 30 seconds later the ref calls our captain to give him a warning about it, Weatherall gives the ref a 2nd serve.. ref sends him for 10.... honestly this bloke what the hell do we do with him he has become an absolute liability.
  • 29min: Our defence has been a thing of absolute beauty, like out wide and in the middle numerous times I thought the Warriors were in... but after about 4 sets in a row on our line.. and still a man down due to Leeroy.. they finally strip us and score on the side-line 4-6.
  • 34min: That Leeroy incident has rly rattled us.. we've given away another penalty which I think was a 50/50, ref has turned on us now and just pinging us for everything.. and this is a soft try conceded.. shame before half time, we need to regroup. 4-12.
  • 39min: We finally get the ball and some gorgeous play to put another pass to Saifiti to go over and they've called it forward again.. fmd.. HALF-TIME.
  • 41min: Finally some ball again and the ref cant take this one off us.. Hodges looking for a runner.. just does himself instead and scores untouched under the sticks.. needed that badly.. 10-12.
  • 47min: Repeat set on their line and Weatherall is able to carry a couple over.. some atonement but not nrly enough... 16-12, we are in front which is fantastic.
  • 51min: We got a 6-again and go on the attack.. I've had to rewind this numerous times cause so much happened.. Borg down the blindside gets us a set on the attack.. Hodges with a late pass to Maclaren who passes instantly before he gets hit.. to CMeafou who is having an absolute breakout game today.. he steps off his left to beat 2 defenders and with a fullback in front, he should have passed to Burton who was trailing him.. but he ran into contact with the fullback, but was strong enough to just stand and offload back to Carmichael who charges thru untouched under the sticks.. beautiful stuff boys.. love it.. 22-12.
  • 57min: Damn an error from us and we invite the Warriors back down and their hooker reaches out and steals one under the sticks.. shame and a fairly soft try but we're tired now.. 22-18.
  • 65min: Warriors have theirs backs up and are rly damaging us with their runs.. we have had our opportunities though but just errors late in the count and not closing things out... and a penalty gets the warriors down-field and and they spin it wide. Saifiti maybe came in to get the ctr or maybe the ctr ran into him.. either way the winger is left untouched... and they score.. 22-22. Shame we should have wrapped it up by now.. but game on..
  • 68min: Cooper Hale comes on and gives away possible the dumbest 6-again ive seen in some time.. but we defend it.. Andrews taking a bomb in the in-goal.. the warriors stop him running out for the quick tap... and get sent to the bin.. warriors almost as dumb as us tbh..
  • 73min: CMeafou where has this bloke been the last 12mths, is he more comfortable on the left, hes always played right that I've seen? Again gets nose thru and gets us a 6-again.. and finally we spread it right and they don't take this try off Saifiti.. 3rd time he has crashed over... but its on the side-line.. but Hodges kicks it.. woah... 28-22. 6mins left.
  • 79min I thought Hodges may have kicked out on the full.. but its actually a 40-20.. we get a penalty in front and close it out 30-22.. far out way more stress than I needed for my Saturday morning, but a rly good game to win, easily could have lost it.. we won it with our 1st half defence.. the main thing we need to fix is 5th tackle options or just errors when we need to control possession.. were taking risks we shouldn't be when we are winning the game and need to hand the ball back in the corner, great job. And massive props to coach Gorrell for the defence and picking up the attack without Hammoud.
  • Burton-watch: Was super quite early in the game (not sure he had any carries), eventually he stated getting more vocal trying to get the dummy-half to give him a hit-up.. ran a few, always tucking his nose through and usually making 10m.. gets hit hard with the 3-4yr age difference.. will be interesting when he bulks up a bit.. hasn't rly found himself in any space yet.. supported a few times.. hes very slim compared to most of them, looks more like a winger in physique.. but I think we need a ctr more than we need a winger in this grade.. good to get thru games like this for his development.
