2026 NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg

SGI NSW Cup
Some notes from Flegg (62-14 win):
Finally get to relax and enjoy a win after a week losing Mens Origin, U19 mens & womens Origin, First Grade, Whoever-is-playing-the-dogs... its been a rough week.
  • Couple of strong players dropping back from Cup like Ben Jackson, Dextar Grant, Eden Hodges, Jarrah Treweek, Viliami Hikila, Isaiah Fagalilo..
  • Burton been strong and fast, he doesnt look physically that much smaller than these kids that are 3-4yrs older than him.. handles the hitups fine, has good pace and that set up one of our early tries, able to burn his defender out wide. Needs a preason or 2 to bulk up his body, its easy to get injured out there, he picked up a few but played on.
  • CMeafou struggled all season in U19's and he's murdering it in U21's.. not sure if he was carrying an injury, or change of sides.. but he is too big and strong.. we need him locked up, he is going straight past his brother, granted Daniel was very good at this stage also. Did pick up what I hope was just a cramp late in the match and went off.
  • Toby Rumble I still don't feel confident will make it, but hes having more and more moments this year that are impressive (so maybe its a different conversation in 12mths time.. hes good in the air, tall and fast).... he is bulking up too was rly skinny in years gone by but has a solid torso now... had a 70m effort all individual for a try. But my favourite moment was 'Rumble's got a Dumble' jesus the commentator after Toby got his 2nd, and he went on to score 4.
  • McLaren and Hodges both had quality moments during the match.. not perfect but both scoring tries and setting some up.
  • Half-Time we are up 28-4, Eden has kicked 2 from 6 conversions (2 from in front and 4 missed from out wide.. but rly not kicking well.. they eventually gave it to *Tom Kirk but he can't kick anything not in front.. thankfully we scored many in front.... they need to get Burton kicking tbh, its him or Hodges.
  • 2nd half was pretty much same as the 1st.. everyone was good obviously.. probably just too much class for our opponent.. good experience for all.. quite a few players seemed injured at different points.. bruised and battered but still 2nd on the ladder, up against Penrith who are on top next Sunday that will be a huge step up... 62-14 win.

I believe after the ladder is updated for this game, Dragons are going to be top of the table again.

Thanks The Rev. Nice to see one of our teams doing well in attack.

You take it any way you can get it. Shame they couldn’t getting the win, CT, Nick and Fale made a difference with their carries. Shame LKT and JO couldn’t steer them home especially against 12 men in the 2nd half. Very frustrating
Whilst the jury may still be out on Reed, unfortunately the skill of steering a team around and game management in different scenario's seem to be lacking right throughout the club. Lets hope Metcalf can get us out of this hole. For ressies not to win playing against a team that is one man down for at least the entire half is virtually inexcusable.

Where did Eden Hodges come from? I know he’s been a steeler for a while but never a stand out… this year he has shot the lights out and is probably the most important player on that team

Always been a decent footballer, sometimes you need a good coach and game plan to unlock the talent.
Goz has that about him, he's going to be a good coach.

Hodges has been good for a few years, big long boot, goalkicking (weekend aside) , can make a break.. Hammoud in front of him, but will be a great bonus if he comes on, lots of opportunity this year with the reed/hammoud injuries.

  • #9 is a new name, isn't he?
  • I don't pretend to know as much as others about this kind of thing but I get the impression #1 and 2 are big, fast when they get going, outside backs but the relatively slow leg speed mean they are never going to progress to the NRL.
  • Jarrah Treweek, Ben Jackson and Tony Rumble all promoted to NSW Cup.
  • Jesse Williams still a no-show.
