2026

Well that will do me. Just reading the experts predictions for the coming 2026 season and well I might as well book a round the world cruise to shield me from the coming disaster that is about to unfold.

Carayannis- Dragons - 15th
Read - Dragons - Wooden Spoon
AI - Dragons - 16th
Foxsports - Dragons - 13th
The Roar - Dragons - 15th
The Bookies - Dragons - 16th / 17th

And to think I just booked my non refundable flights and accommodation for our traditional Anzac Day clash against the chickens which is also my wedding anniversary (45th). What was I thinking?.

Seems like every season for a while now Dragons are favourites for the spoon.

I’m hopeful that the imminent, albeit still unconfirmed, announcement of the KK signing for 2027 will have a positive impact on the playing group in 2026. The experienced players and those coming off contract will want to impress to secure their place in the 2027 squad, and the young guns will be pushing hard to accelerate their development.

And that is how it actually works

I wouldn't write off our chances of making the bottom of the 8 in 26
To me Jo it will revolve around our halves and a better injury state than what we had this year. Also get Kk in 27 plus a couple of others. Sloan and lawrie and luch gone. 27 will be the year for me.even though i would Be wishing for a finals appearance in 26. Just not getting overly excited until i see at least 7 to 10 rounds.

Nice optimism though unless we can get KK a year early and maybe the Cowboys winger who was rumoured to want out, top 8 might be difficult. 2027 will see us return to our rightful place as a contender. Cowboys are surely having salary cap issues. They are still paying JT about a million a year to play 30 minutes a game. Recently extended Dearden and Nanai.

Brent Read is the biggest dragons hater of all time, I reckon he’s tipped us to get the spoon 4 years in a row

The funniest part is he’s never held to account for the shit takes/opinions.

Doesnt break any stories like Chammas either

just a waste of space

I don't mind Read in general, most of the journos/commentators just hammer the Flavour of the Month (FotM) issue.. rip into the same old club/coach/players.. Read presents a counterview on quite a few issue... but yes when it comes to us he is very much not a fan... tbf someone has to get the spoon.. someone has to get Bottom 2, Bottom 4 etc.... Newcastle and us I think r the 2 weakest rosters.. so I have no worries if journos predict us there..

Still hoping we can fill the last ~4 2026 spots with some quality.. even 1 or 2 guns if we could somehow get them early... but I think its unlikely so late in the preseason.... so I think we will be forced to buy a few fillers which doesnt bode well for 2026.. but if we get KK secure and some guns for 2027.. I think we will all feel good about where we r going.

Im banking that our juniors get another year of quality under thier belt with no major injuries. But come 2027 with the roster changes we are due to have there will be no more excuses and i certainly dont want to hear any.

A new year, changes to player rosters at all clubs some better than others, a couple of clubs with new head coaches and assistants, etc.

Throughout the year there will be games that a team is expected to win but doesn't, teams that on paper don't look that strong actually play great footy and go on a winning run, all teams suffer player injuries some much more than others, bounce of the ball and rub of the green decisions going a clubs way more often than others, etc.

If the Dragons can manage to get more of the positives, particularly fewer injuries and more rub of the green decisions going their way for a change (haha!), you just never know where we will be on the table at the end of the comp in 2026. Must ensure that they don't lose the last 4-5 games in a row at the end and win at least 14-15 games in the year. Not asking for too much am I?

100% Dave I believe we have a weak roster only in the fact it is unknown. Nobody knows how our juniors are going to perform. We have an unknown halves combination We don’t know how our forwards will perform who our wingers will be etc. so yeah the experts can say what they like all will be revealed by the first few rounds until then they can bang on how they like.
