I know I'm not the best judge and have never claimed I know as much about lower graders than many others but I was honestly disappointed by Buchanan this year. In the 2 or 3 games he played.1 Drinky 2 Holmes 3 Suli 4 Buchanan 5 Sami 6 Nikorima 7 Metcalfe

This time last year, I was enthusiastic about his chances but this year, he showed no improvement at all. Now I'm hoping 2 of Heidke, Williams, Rumble, Burton can play NRL next year.

There you have it. Such a shame. His physique doesn't match his skills. Sad but true, IMO. But he still has another year to prove me wrong and I hope he does.

I do think he is too tiny for centre his body matches more a hooker type he is quick but tiny unfortunately

Unfortunately we cannot be over sympathetic with several of our players. We need to field a really strong first grade squad of 19 which is obvious and we cannot just select a player unless that player really has got what is needed for each position. The Club has identified where we needed strength in several spots and that is why they have signed up those players who we all know who they are. I don't think that Recruitment will be trying hard to find another centre externally as I think that they have identified a couple within the younger group who could fill the bill. One of them I doubt will be Buchanan.
I feel confident that Young and Anderson have got a pretty good squad to work with for next year. It is up to each and every player and coach to get things right for a much needed improved year.

Truth, It’s a bit different for halves like Alfie langer and Thurston who were very small but for a centre to be that small I can’t think of one over the years who is diminutive but was an excellent player
Timoko maybe? Even then he’s incredibly strong and has a fend that rivals anyone’s. He’s the exception to the rule + he’s on the outer at canberra

Timoko is about the same height but way bigger than Buchanan otherwise.

Yeah kinda proves my point, even if Buchanan packs on another 5-6 KG’s. Does it affect his speed which is his strongest asset?
Want him to succeed but I don’t see him as that blue chip prospect like Burton or Papualli

He had a shoulder reco too how is that going to affect him when is he actually able to train it’s been ages and since they haven’t upgraded him yet he is free to talk to other clubs come November. I don’t know if he is in Anderson’s plains tbh

Even though im not a huge fan... Buchanan is pretty quick for a ctr, acceleration the one thing he brings is he can beat his defender.. if he can also start to get stronger and pull through half tackles he could be something... he has to be able to handle all the rest of the job though, and make his own tackles.
Next year is his make or break, but I still reckon maybe he goes early if he signs elsewhere come Nov 1st.. that said we could do with some depth in that position... so unless we have someone else in mind to bring in, I think we may need him.
I must say Toya @21 has blown away all expectations of what a young can do, but he is an absolute exception.

Tolau Koula is not big 180cm 88kg but very fast with huge acceleration
Bucky doesn’t use his acceleration into contact anywhere near the same way.

Val has 6kg on Bucky however their effective tackle percentages in '26 were 74.7 and 79.5 respectively. Neither are particularly good, but it seems like Bucky has the edge on a bigger guy with rep experience.
I reckon he's worth another season, at least. If he doesn't stake his claim in '27 then move him on.

Aye I’d give him another year and see where he’s at but essentially we have to stop getting held up on local prospects who aren’t good enough to take us where we want to go
