It's just a substitute way of satisfying a nicotine addiction. Cigarettes are merely a vehicle for moving a highly addictive chemical (nicotine). I don't think there is anything high school girlish about doing it but I agree it should be stamped out for professional athletes. It should now that it's a known fact vaping isn't a harmless substitute to smoking.Add a vape test in the recruitment offer. If they take it, no offer. Find it funny seeing adults vape, it looks like something for highschool girls. Like drinking girly cruisers.
Not a good look that’s for sure. If they need to do it then bloody do it at home in private, not at training, not the car park on game day ffs. Some of these boneheads are brain dead moronsI would have thought for any elite athlete, smoking anything wasnt remotely a thing... and the NRL is essentially a battle of which squad is fitter, and the standard is e-l-i-t-e led by the panthers... they can keep that pace up for 80+ minutes... so smoking of any type assumably decreases your lung capacity and your chance to compete.. but.. maybe its not as big an impact as i thought if its that widespread... maybe moderate smoking isnt as impactful as dietary choices...
It is hard for all these young men though who (outside of football) are growing up, experiencing life and we hold them to a holier than thou standard that none of us probably lived up too (obviously we werent professional footballers, but still). You can understand at a minimum keeping it out of your CoE, and this is where you need good men as mentors and coaches to help them.
With all the cameras and phones etc around them they can’t afford not to be professional if they want to get anywhere.I think it highlights the importance of our young players being high quality professionals too. They'll be the leaders of this team and shape the culture. Very happy our youngsters are very professional on and off the field. Unlike some other teams...
Well said Dave. One should also know what passive smoking does to the people around you as well. Sometimes they are 10 times worse off. After being a smoker for almost 43 years and averaging 10 cigarettes a day, I ended up with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). My first signs of lung problems really came to me in 2009 when I went to Manly on Melbourne Cup day in that year and after placing my bet on in the pub TAB and had a bite to eat with my darling wife, I went into the surf to catch a wave or two and after diving under the first breaker I stood up and was out of breath just doing that. I walked back to where my wife was lying on her towel and she looked at me and asked me what was wrong and I knew that my lungs were fucked. A few days later I gave up those bloody things and have not put one of those despicable things into my mouth since . My condition is worsening and not a day goes by that I have to cough up mucous day and night. Walking up hills, stairs, running - all hard to do now. Being unable to breathe like most normal people is a bastard. Not being able to go on long walks with my wife and kids and travel the world is terrible and is now a dead set past thing.
I am giving all you guys advice to not smoke especially those that are and to pass onto any family members who are smoking and friends as well. Please Do Not Smoke - As Yul Brynner the actor who died of cancer said, who I should have taken notice of years before I gave up. Vapes and smoking will catch up to you and make you crook believe me. Nothing should go into your lungs but clean, fresh air. Just mark my words guys.
Thanks and yes, you are right there Justa. My Dad smoked for years and he ended up having COPD, gave up smoking for 20 odd years but then he suffered a heart attack to end his life. My Mum never smoked but because my Dad did, she copped all of his passive smoke and she died of lung cancer. Don't like my chances of beating either a heart attack (even though I've had triple by pass surgery 13 years ago) or cancer at this rate.Well said Dave. One should also know what passive smoking does to the people around you as well. Sometimes they are 10 times worse off.
Importance of appointing the right assistant coaches. You don't have to listen but he's one of the best coaches ever, not everything has to be directly linked to the dragons for it to be important. What is applicable to Dean Young? If anything. I just don't feel like listening to Phillip Ronald Gould waffle on unless it's about Dragons coach.
