I know we were talking about the importance of importing players into the Dragons system (from penrith, qld etc)... but this is the trade off too.... these 16-18yr olds have many years before they are legit first graders, including 2+ contract renewals where far more attractive rivals will try to pinch them just as they get to age... hard work trying to keep them grounded and happy through that development period (where they inevitably want more first grade time).

We managed to keep Halangahu so far, and I think he will be ok because his whole family is here.. and we are giving him every opportunity.. LKT we extended but not sure how many rivals we had.. Latu left. Tonga looking to go.. Ah Kee.. will he stay? Certainly in no rush to extend... Infinitely easier to keep ur Egans, ur Reeds, ur Stewarts, Meafous and Couchmans etc content.

There should come a time where we are one of those clubs players want to play at.. then it all works out.. but damn its a hard job getting there.

We are heading in the right direction after many many years as a leper club. We are getting our house back in order and once we become competitive in a year or so time that's when you will see player managers advising their client's that playing for the big red V may not be a bad choice.

I reckon they’ll start playing Loko in the top 19 and give him some decent minutes at some point to sway him in negotiations. Similar to LKT last year

I think there’s a bit of a stigma about the halves spots at our club at the moment with all the nepotism narratives and what not

That’s what I heard about 3/4 months ago from someone who’s close with Jasais Ah Khee’s management or maybe former management now.

“Is there really a genuine chance for him to progress, is there really a path to first grade?”

Whether he (LKT) deserves a starting role is one thing but the Flanagan at 6 over a talented young genuine five eight has raised some eyebrows

I dont have the energy to get into any Flanagan bashing, If it were up to me I’d be playing a halves combo of LKT/Atkinson which has significant upside and who knows, maybe LKT has a breakout year and becomes one of the better young halves in the comp ala Dylan Brown in 2022

I just think it’s so drab and jarring playing a makeshift sub par NRL half who’s 27 and isn’t going to move the needle for us for an entire season

I want a half that bothers the opposition and his own teammates think this guy is going to create points for us one way or another

We’ll see. Let’s finish outside the bottom four and see some tangible on field improvement before saying we’re heading in the right direction

To my old eyes Flanagan jnr is a decent 1st grader whose main strength is his defensive ability. I personally never believed he was a 7, he is not a game manager. As a 6 he lacks a running game that you need from your 6 to compliment your 7.

At this moment in time I believe that LKT still needs to develop his skillset and he will hopefully but until then we have little choice.

The future may see an Atkinson/ Reed combination with Reed our 7 and Atkinson reverting to 6. Time will tell. Just my views.

Fair enough mate, the fact we went so long the way we did with no designated recruitment manager and the lack of resources which Tim watsford spoke about, frankly it was embarrasing.

David Riolo and Steve Gillis who are 2 of the biggest name player agents were laughing about it in their podcast saying they couldn’t believe it

So yes I agree the steps forward in that area are nice to see. Still a ways to go but it’s a nice progression

I have been a big supporter of Flanno as coach and said give him time to build a competitive team, but the decision to take Lawrie to Vegas and leave Pasifiki Tonga here, by himself, has me saying WTF? I see Pasifiki Tonga as a good future prop and currently better than Lawrie.

If Pasifiki Tonga does leave us, I would bet that he goes to "Sydney" based club.

Right now I'm only interested in what is going on with the politics of the club? I can't comprehend anyone thinking Lawrie and Gular are better than LPT now let alone what they are going to offer in the future. Nope, this has to be all about politics, not ability or winning this game.

Hell, I'd have taken Hutchinson who I believe is on a development contract rather than Gular or Lawrie. Both those 2 will be gone at the end of the year.

Guler is important for us in 2026.. hes one of the 1st grade level cogs we have.. even if from bench.

Hutcho is a different beast, more overlap with a couchman.. but imo more of a line break threat, more offensive.. def would like him into a dev role by next year.. obviously Heidke the other one.. noone else comes to mind.. think dmeafou maybe next year but ive barely seen him take a run in anger for yonks... curious about Coutts also, but again need to see a much much much bigger body of work to know how hes travelling.
