Dragons v Dogs Round 1

I dont like it cause I think were giving up some of the left side touches of our only guy with x-factor in Val.. and I think were doing it because he needs to be paired with some speed which he doesnt have when paired with CT whos anchored on the left... but I would have rathered do something different with the wingers.. its possible its also influenced by who they are marking in the dogs side, but surely were not making changes due to our opposition, I dont think Flanno would give that much respect to any team. The slimmer ground im sure is part of it also in that we probably wont run around anyone or vice versa.

iirc Suli prefers right side also, remember we moved Lomax to the left to accomodate him, and it was a disaster for Lomax.. so moving Suli there now doesnt seem like something we are doing for his benefit either.. so I find it all quite counter-intuitive tbh... but whatever lets see how it plays out and hope for the best.

Happy to pass judgment after seeing it in action. It might be an Ennis attack or Deano defence coaching influenced decision. From memory, we set up the attack by shifting the ball from right to left last year. Right side would do a bit of the donkey work by getting us into field position & left would be the main attacking play.

Crichton is a right centre, so he'll be running at Suli. Given the way Penitani baked Moses in the CS, I doubt that this is a tactical defensive move

Me too, I'd just be interested in the reasoning. But hey, as long as Guler doesn't drop the ball off the kickoff we've improved

I forgot about that, we've had some shocking 1st carries. Kerr in the Knights game too. Whoever takes the 1st hitup can't be pushed back. I wouldn't even mind us shifting it to the edges so sua or leilua takes the 1st run.

I wouldn't mind us trying to antagonise them a bit, especially spine players to get em off their game. Make it more stop/start & get their team in an unfamiliar game rhythm.

Try to get their decision makers making poor decisions. Galvin is still young, inexperienced and plays a bit off the cuff. Burton hasn't proven himself as a halfback. Their hooker is new & Tracey at the back is solid but not elite. A bit of sledging, try to get in their head a bit & distract them from their plan.

I remember our 1st round match with them last year where critta slid in with his knees and got CT in the head while CT was scoring a try. CT tried to go after him during the replay but gutho held him back. I hope gutho let's him go this time if it happens again.

I don't think we have enough talent to match them set for set. Need to do something to get em off their normal game.

If it becomes a free‑flowing attacking contest, I think we are in trouble. On the other hand, if Atkinson controls the tempo with a strong kicking game and our forwards are motivated to keep them pinned in their own half, there’s a genuine chance of an upset in Game 1.

I would think we have an advantage in the forwards as well. If Luciano can fire up. In the trial vs Souths Couchmans and Stewart were practicing off-loading just before the line. It didn't work out in that game but I bet it will at some stage this season.

Early on I found myself thinking they looked more skilful than last year. Then again, I also thought that we were about to put thirty points on them, so my judgement may not be the most dependable.
