Dragons v Storm Round 2

That's true. Zac was only ever going to be a stop gap 5/8 but just sayin, it was after he publicly put his hand up to partner Hunt in the halves, he fell out with Flanno.
I wasn't aware of Zac putting his hand up to play 5/8 to partner Hunt. I know he already wanted out before Flanno got here and then I know he wasn't happy about being moved to the wing and what Flanno had to say to him about him not being a top line centre. Flanno moving him to the wing proved a master stroke on his part. I wasn't for the move to the wing, but Flanno proved me wrong.

We had more attacking threats in that team imo, if memory is correct we used to score heavily in the 2nd half of games. Rule changes have now also made the game a bit more quicker & open imo. It's a good base but hopefully we can develop upon it during the season. Atko massive boot is game changing for us, if we didn't have his kicking v dogs then we were totally screwed.
I agree Acko's boot is a plus for us, but it also means his running game on the 4th tackle may be restricted, because if he gets tackled on the 4th tackle, he can't be our kicker on the 5th tackle. Kyle's kicking long kicking game isn't good and neither is King Togia's. When Reed gets a run, that will help, as we will have 2 good kickers and it may open up Acko's running game more.

Its everything we were doing in 2024 & 2025, only we were losing 10-20m every time we kicked via Kyle or LKT.. even Ben wasnt a huge boot.. Atkinson (injury free) will atleast help us with field position.

2010 though, we had an attack that was almost unstoppable.. it was back when Soward used to run the ball, but outside him the triple-play of Creagh, Cooper, BMoz with Boyd chiming in, there were so many ways we could score points. Thats not even factoring in Gasnier or Nightingale's edge.

Thats why im not enjoying our style atm, grind all day can work... but if you cant convert pressure, ur just waiting for 1 mistake or 1 piece of freakish play to break your heart. The dogs dont really have that x-factor, certainly didnt show it on the weekend anyway, could also be the narrow field though.
In 2010, our attack certainly wasn't almost unstoppable. It was our defence that was our strength. We used to strangle opposition teams and often win by a small margin or score points late in the game. Gasnier only came back half way through the season and never got back to his best, partly because he was playing outside of Soward, who wouldn't go to the line and commit defenders. Gasnier was getting the ball and having the opposition players all over him. Soward would only run the ball, when the opposition couldn't lay a hand on him.

Yep Burton and Rokko do sound like promising future backs, but it's probably 3 years before they are there. Its next year we need an excitement machine and preferably at fullback along with Reed and Atko.
Probably 3 years but won't they both be 18, going on 19 in 2 years? It's a big ask and a lot of water to flow under the bridge till then but if one or both debuted in round 1 2028, it would be rare but not extraordinary.

I'd love us to have an excitement machine, maybe two of them. They would also bring crowds to watch the game. If we maintain having "boring" players, the crowd numbers will stay down.

Talking about Soward, remember that game when he got Greg Eastwood penalised for an "innocuous obstruction play" blocking Soward from tackling Luke Patten who streaked away then passed the ball to Jamal Idris who scored the try but was not awarded due to Soward's ability to milk the penalty and the Dragons winning the game by 2 points which of course enabled us to ultimately win the minor premiership in 2009.

Those were the days:sneaky:.

Well all I can say is I hope we dont have any jet lag. That Storm team is so very quick especially around the middle of the park with the play the balls. Their spine is top class.

Their fullback is sus in defence but in attack speed to burn and just inserts himself into those attacking structures on both sides of the ruck.

We have our hands full.

By crikey I was terrible picking the Eels tonight but I was trying to break the freakish Bellamy thing. He has won round 1 games ever since he took over as the coach way back. Parra not good at all. Too many mistakes and too many 6 agains to let the Storm have so much possession. Do you think that Mick Ennis learnt anything during his commentary on Fox tonight?

People will overreact to the result tonight

Parramatta aren’t as bad as they looked tonight. Still a good side with weaknesses on their edges but will contend for top 8. Hot tip - they’ll start favorites against us in round 3

Storm a very good side but not a premiership winning team, got a roll on and parramatta couldn’t turn it around.

I think we can beat them next week but we need to be so sharp on both sides of the ball. None of this conservative turn the ball under and 4 hit ups nonsense every set or we’ll get beat

Unfortunately Dave he can learn what he wants, but we havent got the same class of attacking player, plus they did it without Coates. I thought they started pretty average but then got better as the game went on. I dont think it will be pretty next week.
