Egan Injury

Now that I am back home and the euphoria of the win is subsiding slightly. As an old coach I want to say this. I was at that end and saw young Egan go down. He was instantly in distress.

The referee has a duty of care to ensure the players welfare. The game should have been stopped as it appeared to be a serious knee injury. The referee needs not only to be reprimanded but should be dropped from officiating for a period of time.

The Dragons management needs to make an official complaint to both the NRL and Referees Assosiation in regards to the way this referee neglected his duty of care.

It was farcical that even after the ball hit the injured player and then the trainer that he continued play.

Any thoughts

It happens but not entirely the refs fault. Coaches will instruct players to lay down at opportune times if play is automatically stopped. Touch judges should alert the ref and if it turns out to be gamesmanship, that trainer and club should be punished.

Agree but to me the kid yelled out grabbed his knee and I immediately turned to my wife and said that's an ACL injury. It beggars belief after play had stopped because the ball had struck a prone injured player and then the trainer that the referee would not have made an enquiry with the trainer. Just my views

This is all on our traiiner, it's up to him to put his hand up and ask for the game to be stopped.
You can hear the ref reply to Cook " he's need to put his hand up."
Players go down all the time, how does a ref judge the severity of an injury on the run.

I figured that and that changes the situation then. The trainer whomever he is then needs to be spoken to. That was hard to watch yesterday. I wasn't that far back behind the posts. I automatically went into old coach mode because nobody wants to see any player injured. I was fairly incensed at the time . Thanks

Yes it was just intersting, even when the play came back and he didn't cover Dyl.
I wounder if the trainers are a bit gun shy after the fines and crackdowns after Watergate.

Well you may be right but I was there and reflecting back on it I failed to see the trainer raise his hand. I believe that is still a requirement to notify the referee that the game needs to be stopped.

Surely someone needs to ask the question of that trainer what were you thinking? Why didn't you signal? It was terrible to watch live.

Is it confirmed ACL? Could be even worse. ACL and MCL. He'll be back bigger and better for round 1 next year even in worst case.

Agree.
It’s funny how they stop for players with cramps but not for something like this.
