HAMISH STEWART - DALLY M 2ND ROWER OF THE YEAR

Just saw them standing together. Look pretty much the same. Hamish might be a bit bigger.

I was reading he had a late unexpected growth spurt. I wonder if that meant he had to develop good footy fundamentals beforehand then the growth spurt helped make those skills/traits more better.

Am I wrong or did Hamish only revert to playing second row about halfway through the season? It must mean the points he gained when playing lock counted toward the total.

Hamish - great player, great future, love him.
My opinion is that he isnt one of the best two second rowers in the entire NRL however he has performed amazingly all year and is on a climb.
Can't wait for him to go back to back to back in the team as Lock of the Year in the not too distant future.

PS ... am very happy for him that he won the award and am not belittling the season he put in for us.

If the points he was awarded for the games he played lock counted, I can certainly see how he won.

i think in terms of position and dally m the judges basically look across all positions and nominate who was the best in that position in that game.
Those names then tallied and build into the team of the year.

Separate process to the actual 3-2-1 points however by default, if you finish top 3 in the 3-2-1s you are given your position in the team of the year.

So Stewart would have two tallies .. his lock tally and his 2nd row tally. That to me makes the effort better from him.

Also, the teams weaknesses in other positions become a factor. For us our edge forwards were not a weakness but out centres/wingers absolutely were.
Oppositions would attack Holmes/Suli via thier centres which means the negatives (if any) in Egan/Stewart were not as exposed. Also opposition Edge Forwards less likely to tear us up meaning anything Stewart did in attack may tip his balance.
