SGI Jersey Flegg
Flegg Notes Notes v Fiji

1st Half:

  • 1st vs Last so a mismatch but the Silktails are all massive units that hit very hard, and they did early on, plenty of aggro and shots being put on.. Hikila normally rolls over all comers but they were getting 3 on him and picking him up a bit after contact... Burton also its noticeable the age-difference with guys this big.. doing fine but running into the teeth is hard going.
  • Both wingers have been outstanding, Toby Rumble is back from Cup and just really classy out there scoring 3 tries in the first half.. Kye Andrews has been rly dangerous when he runs it also and caught a ball the silktails kicked attempting a penalty.
  • But its the Hodges show he score 1 himself off a grubber he regathered, line breaks and iirc set up 2 others.. converted everything bar 1 from the sideline that hit 'both' uprights.. and as I say this he did give an intercept away late in the half... which eventually led to a try but otherwise great stuff.
  • Basically the quality is starting to show as the half goes on and we wear their energy down, 28-8 at half time.
2nd Half:
  • Took 20mins to get on top.. Burton with a long range line break and Hodges again in support with plenty to do...
  • Hikila took the 1st half personally and has been running full-kilt again in the 2nd, he had this 1 run where he did like a goose-step high in the air before running straight into the defence at full speed.. a thing of beauty.. but it was Hodges again getting his nose through and a gidley style flick to langdon who has worked well with him all day for the next try...
  • Hammoud got the next one, playing at ctr after another injury.. handling the position fine though its not his natural spot.. running pretty quick.. doesnt look hampered at all which is great.. maybe back into 7 at some pt.. but the side is winning so its tricky.
  • Fiji almost scored the best try in literal history.. but we pulled them down 2m short.. full time 46-8 solid win.
Watching this game the Fiji boys are park footballers run hard and are decent in size but have no structure yes they hit hard and run hard but I think it’s like running through brick walls at times I thought most of the boys struggled to gain metres especially getting the passes flat footed and no early ball which happened a lot first half we just look so much better passing the ball using both sides which they don’t tend to do

watched a bit of Flegg ...
With Shadi playing right centre early - is this a deliberate play to see if he can ... the clubs centre depth is horrible and a big 5/8 playing centres is not undeard of.

Loved Burton's work in Hodges 2nd try as well.

How good. Did he look Shadi when they hooked Marley and put him in halfback Shadi and Hodges are elite Marley 14 at best still undecided on that even

  • Tom Kirk back down after a couple of weeks in NSW Cup. Have a few of these tall players who are fast but because of long strides. Takes them a while to get up to stop speed. TBH I thought No. 5 might be the best of them but No. 3 was promoted so maybe I'm wrong.
  • Rorters are 15 competition points behind our Jersey Flegg team so expect their talent scouts to be hanging out, stinking things up.
