SGI NSW Cup
First-Half (U17 Prelim Final - Steelers vs Roosters)
  • Api Amone is a late inclusion from the bench, so we are basically full-strength today.
  • 4min - Lewis has thrown a shocking pass from dummy half on 1st tackle, 15m from our line, knocked on and then 3 plays later 2nd rower runs at Lewis again and goes over him to score.. hope this doesn't throw his confidence.. he had some really poor games early season, but has been good through the rest of it. 0-6.
  • 10min - So Roosters have been quite dominant and skilful early but off a penalty we get a sort of attacking kick 5m from the roosters tryline.. contested kick Sager loses.. but the Roosters ctr drops it as he hits the ground.. prob would be a penalty in first grade.. but its allowed to play on and Sager picks it up, fends off 2 and sticks it over in the corner.. Coehlo nails it from the sideline... 6-6.
  • 13min - good set and a 6-again and we go close a few times to scoring.. but centre Tausala is able to wrestle in traffic.. and able to pop a late offload that cuts out Chapman and lands in Sager's hands who has 2 tacklers, but is able to spin and reach out with his long frame.. wow great turnaround.. nice to capitalise on some possession and restore confidence. Coehlo nails it again from the edge 12-6.
  • 17min - Roosters get a run of possession and attack our line, their impact forward takes 3 tacklers and their dummy half smart enough to take advantage of the next play in creating a 1on1 2m from our line.. #12 Dean Barter cant stop him from that range.. not sure who else could have assisted, Lewis was miles away, maybe Barter didn't move up.. dunno 12-12.
  • 21min - Sager drops a ball on a regulation hit up 20m from our line after we defended so well, and the roosters fullback instantly capitalises on the next play.. he burns Tausala who's almost flat-footed, I mean he ended up 2-3m wider than him and left our winger with a 2on1. 12-16.
  • 26min - This sux, they run at Lewis again and he drops off, an offload and their 2nd rower charges over again.. Burto almost held him up but he got it down before he started rolling 12-20... missed goal kicks hopefully can help in the 2nd half.
  • 29min - Great finish to the half.. we finally get the ball and march up-field, another sort of short bomb from Lewis 15m from the roosters line and the 2 roosters sit and look at it while Sager just runs straight between them, picks up the ball and scores near the sticks.. hat-trick for the kid and has kept us in a game where the Roosters just seem a bit too electric for us, their spine r all so fast.. but 18-20 Half-Time, game is on.

Second-Half (U17 Prelim Final - Steelers vs Roosters)
  • 31min - Api hopefully stays on, great effort to rush the dummy half and force an error, have missed him for a lot of the season... we almost score twice in the following set but held up. Crap off the back of that I think he will get suspended for a dumping spear tackle of sorts.. but not sent off thankfully.
  • 35min - Thankfully a roosters error as they peppered our line but we pick it up, some six again's and get back on the attack.. our #14 in Chase has been so good at eyes up stuff from dummy half, and he does it again darting over to put us in front, gah Asher misses one from almost in front 22-20 lead.
  • 40min - OK.. Roosters tearing us up and we desperately managed to stop them.. scary stuff.. but in return we are just 30m off our line, Couchman @13 managed to poke his nose through and deliver an offload to Chapman who quickly backs him up.. now Chapman has a fullback in front he looks right and realises the only other steelers is too slow, so hes on his own so he runs left instead.. and burns the fullback... the winger is faster than him and comes late, but Asher changes direction and able to fight thru a jersey grab.. scores out wide but a huge moment... well done Asher! Looks like he is goalkicking again with Coehlo still off.. he is still sucking in air and takes his time.. and hes bombed another goal... fark.. these points r the difference... 26-20 up.
  • 45min - Roosters milk a penalty.. and capitalise with a massive 20m pass to an unmarked winger.. grrrr atleast its on the sideline... but he kicks it 26-26. 12mins to go.
  • 48min - Another very borderline penalty late in the count to the roosters.. we bravely defend and hold them up over the line.... boys r getting tired now.
  • 51min - Holy sh**, we force an error and refs pinged us for off-season late in the count yet again.. far out that's the 3rd time recently hes done it.. absolutely sinking us... and fark Toya muscles his way over... gonna have to find something to get back into this one 26-32. 6mins left.
  • 56min - Couchman I think a CAT1 HIA High Tackle.. but they've left him on.. so we get a penalty and 1 last set on their line.. Lewis throws an intercept, we tackle the catcher.. but that was our chance.. the roosters score on fulltime also but it was over. 26-36.
  • Overall was a brave season, we certainly could have won today if we had taken our chances.. but honestly the roosters were a better team over-all, mostly just more speed and spark out of their spine, but we certainly put up our dukes up, good season fellas

Watching Burto this season, I am keen to see how he fares in higher grades and I reckon he will def play fullback with his age, but I do wonder if he might end up almost too big for fullback in a world where they seem to be getting smaller and smaller....he might slot into Ctr perhaps? Prob too early to say, and a lot of years of growth still to come.

Roosters dominated line speed our missed tackles terrible we have no attacking flare and to slow today we made silly mistakes at crucial times, Burton played with an injury hurt his lower back could hardly run season over
