Match Notes (Steelers HM's):
  • This is likely to be our most competitive of the jr rep sides in 2026 8th vs 6th.
  • Off the early mistake we go straight over through Dustin Tausala who I'm really trying to keep an eye on.. kid is a wrecking ball @ left ctr.. just get him the ball and he muscles his way over, never quite know if that will transition to higher grades.. but good on him.. just as good is hooker Ryland Coelho who I've never heard of who slots it from the sideline.. 6-0 after 2 minutes.
  • We almost went the length to score the next set but ctr didn't pass it.. then we did a fair bit of defence, and maybe lucky but rly liking this Preston Sager kid, rly big effort to save a try again, think he pushed him into touch, but the ball was called forward anyway.
  • fmd.. Tyler Lewis the 6 charged down twice in 2 sets.. 2nd one they regather it and burn us on the far touchline.. grrrr, 6-6.
  • Coelho the hooker (has a big boot btw), goes for a 40-20 from dummy half.. was close too.. but on the kick chase we force an error from their fullback and Coelho scores the try.. great effort! 12-6.
  • This is working out well to have this kid + chapman in the same squad.. and fark literally as I write this, Chapman has his sort of slammed sort of unlucky into the ground and that's probably him for a few weeks, Cat 1 HIA and they leave him out there.. jesus guys.
  • We attacked their line a few times before half time.. finally Burton slices them open for a nice solo try.... 18-6 with Coehlo nailing another wide one, looks like he could kick it onto the grandstand roof if he wanted.
  • Fark 2nd half and Burton is on report for a kind of throw in a tackle but I think hes ok.. Sager however gets sent for 10 for a lifting tackle.. I think he will get suspended for it.
  • So we defend the set brilliantly.. and Couchman throws a ball just in front of Lewis.. who doesn't catch it.. drops back to pick it up and fumbles it.. into the hands of Manly who score a free try.. Lewis also failed to find touch early in the 2nd half.. absolute shocker today. 18-12.
  • nearly scored through Coehlo again but called forward and later Burton.. a lot of defensive sets came but we kept turning up and hold on.. def the better side, shame it wasn't a bigger win, but much needed 18-12.

Point difference is crucial in a 9 game regular season.

They really need to start putting the foot on teams throats or it could come back to bite them

Forwards and halves just offer very little though. Swann looks decent and he’s a year young tbf

Burton + Chapman and the backs doing a lot of heavy lifting

I didn't really notice Swan I will try to watch for him next week, did you watch much of Coelho? I thought he was very much the difference today, big boot like that is a great weapon.. but once Api is back (assume next week, 2 weeks out HIA) Chapman I assume is back to 9.. maybe Coelho the 14.

I watched him last week from a bad camera angle, and I thought he was one of those really short and stocky kind of almost a To'o or something like that.. but watching him today when he was closer to the camera, hes actually a pretty normal height very athletic build.. and has massive power.. im not sure if youd compare him to Suli perhaps.. maybe a slimmer Suli, but hes also young so he will beef up in time.. its hard to know how these kids will go as they move up into the older grades.. but so far so good.

Rly missing ol Zane Timmins also in the 19's.. think ive had enough jr footy today not gonna watch SG, but did see one nice try put on by Phillips also.

Coelho was the 9, he was putting all the big kicks in.. the 40/20, the goalkicking and a try, was in everything. The side will be much better with Api though.

And yah I saw the score and that ended my desire to watch more footy, gonna be a hard year for Steelers SG Ball, pack keeps them competitive, but missing the backline to put points on.

actually just dawns on me ahead of next weeks Steelers HM game.. Chapman was 100% Cat 1 HIA today, trainer did test him.. or seemed too..... Asher took ages to get up and his legs were wobbly... his teammate had to literally hold him vertical @ marker... he played the whole game though.. and was playing normally once he recovered.... but hes probably not there for the next 2 weeks.. so we would get Api back from his concussion @13, and then Coelho stays @9.

Good chance Sager is suspended also, but thats just a winger... hoping Burton is not.. suspensions are extra painful in such a short season.

I almost think they need to amend the suspension rules for the junior reps season.

Violent conduct should get lengthy bans but a high tackle(unless it’s insanely bad) should just be a sin bin etc.

It’s doing the kids no good to miss 2 games from a 9 game season because their arm slipped up off the ball and catches another player on the neck/chin
