Match Notes (Steelers U17's)

• Up against a weaker team today in the Roosters CC (in their debut season), and even though we are in 4th spot.. we need to put them away and make sure we're in finals.. there are only 2 more rounds to go before finals (1 of those a bye).
• We finally had a full strength squad last weekend and with Api Amone our best prop getting his 2nd HIA for the season, we are down in that dept, but everywhere else is playing, Couchman back @13, Chapman @6 (captain), Burton @1, Coehlo @9.
• 3mins: Coehlo spun his way out of dummy half.. into what would have been the 1st try.. but stopped by the goalpost.. but it mattered not.. the next play, Chapman > Burton > Berghuis > Efaraimo for an easy try in the corner.. becoming a lethal right edge for us.. with 3 goalkickers its been tricky but Coehlo has first go from the right side-line, gorgeous kick 6-0.
• 10mins: Roosters nippy fullback tears through the tackles of Berghuis and Gibbs (stand in prop retreating from marker), tears down field, but Burton just watches him and positions himself perfectly to nail him with a shoulder tackle and stop the play.. and sprints back to be ready for the next play.
• 12mins: Some strong runs and a 6-again and we attack their line again, Chapman is just held out (he looked over).. but Coehlo jumps into dummy half and throws a long cut out ball across the face of 3 of his players to his left centre Tausala who just man handles his opponents to score in the corner 10-0.
• 16mins: Not sure who's at fault here but a big gap opens up between 9. Coehlo and 12. Barter as we defend our line... and we let them score a soft try 10-6.
• 22mins: Tausala rips a 30m line break to get us into attack, 6-again and Chase the backup hooker in 14 is once again back on the field and burrows under for a dummy half try.. he's made a real habit of that.. he's a real eyes up fella.. rly makes his mark when Coehlo gets his breaks. Chapman converts from close to the posts.. 16-6.
• 25mins: Off the back we punch up field to put in an attacking kick that lands 10m out from their line.. roosters fullback catches it but Couchman picks him and frog marches the dude 10m back into his in-goal 1on1.. from the kick off Lewis finds a rampaging Tausala who catches the ball 3m from the goal-line.. good night.. 22-6. Half-Time.
• 32mins: Another big set with an attacking bomb from Lewis, their winger puts the bomb down and Sager is there to pick it up and accept an easy try 28-6.
• 48mins: Attacking kick from Chase and contested by Sager forces a line dropout.. off the back we have 2 middles passing to each other in Duffy > Mahe who reaches out and scores. 34-6.
• 56mins: Coehlo darts out of dummy half for an easy try 40-6.
• Game a bit scrappy from here... but overall a dominant win, bit of a mismatch.. most seemed to come through unscathed.. we did lose the winger Efaraimo at some point not sure what happened.. Duffy and Barter both look like some leg injuries very late in the game...hopefully ok. We go into a Bye and 1 more game ahead of finals!

Didnt get a chance to watch much else.. 14-14 draw for Dragons SG Ball.. watched the end.. we had a few chances to ice it.. field goal attempt charged down which very nearly turned into a runaway souths try on the buzzer.. thankfully we defended it.. would be an awful way to lose a game..

Saints Ball snuck away with a point from a gutsy 14-14 draw. There are some big hungry forwards and outside backs in this side. Their achilles heel is their halves.

We aren't that far ahead of them, I think its a point, but yeah we shouldn't be getting smoked like we are, maybe a big second half !!!

Yeah maybe the motivation factor has gone, still it wouldn't be a good look if you are looking at getting selected somewhere else.

Marley/Meafou/Phillips/Morrison and unfortunately Weatherall who’s contracted will progress to flegg and so on over the next year or 2

Everyone else back to Dapto canaries and Warilla gorillas A grade club footy

Baldock just got shoulder charged by a massive prop late after passing the footy.. ffs.. bloke sent to the bin... but he gets back up a minute later and runs himself, fends one off and scores.. good kid.

Edit: Got the game back to 18-24.. but long range intercept ftl.

Andrews has been the standout this year, Meafou very disappointing.
This should seen the end of Timmins extremely disappointing tenure, the only year they looked good was when Bryan Norrie was assistant coach and ran the show

Amazing the difference when you take the half and centre out.
The two best players player in a rep team make a huge difference.
I could be taling about Souths or Dragons Jasais Ah Kee, Phoenix Johns.

If he's no good then he's no good, I dont think Watsford would just want to shuffle some dead wood around, Timmins has had enough chances to stuff with our juniors.

They already moved Timmins to a part-time role (years ago.. remember hearing him on a podcast).. so its rly just 1 more step.. he may still have a role somewhere, but not as a head coach.. hes had a fair crack now with that squad.

And yes I was wondering about CMeafou and MAndrews but iirc this is their first year in 19's.. so wont be till next year that we see what we are dealing with before moving forward.. gotta say I may have went off a 'tad' early calling to sign CMeafou up for life after 1 game last year.

Note: MAndrews got sinbinned today, but it was a high tackle only cause the guy was falling in the tackle.. very different to the opposition prop that shoulder charged Baldock very late.. was similar to the one on Reed a few weeks ago but didnt hit his head thankfully.
