Kyle Flanagan & the coach

It seems jodragon and a few others have good wraps on Willie Talua, does he have to be an assistant for a couple of years in 1st grade before the step up?

What do Mugfan Mairoomsgi and The Rev think about him?

Yes. And he's our only half who can kick long. He's indispensable at the moment.
Yeah, his long kicking game has impressed me too. His passing game has impressed me over the last 2 weeks. He also has a running game. I think he is more of a 5/8 than halfback. He was considered a fullback before being moved to the halves. That indicates he should have a strong running game. With Kyle being at 5/8 and not having a good long kicking game, Acko doesn't want to get tackled with the ball on the 4th tackle, meaning his running game is currently being impaired.

King Togia was also a fullback, before in his juniors before moving to 5/8. He too lacks a good long kicking game. The sooner Reed gets to play halfback the better. It will open up Acko's running game and take pressure off Acko to be the chief playmaker. Acko looks to be a very good signing, like I was hoping him to be.

If he goes 6-18 they will, the pressure will be insurmountable
Flanno has already got his excuses out with media mates. "We're not winning the comp" and "you've got to have the cattle" and "we have several players with only half a dozen games" are dropped repeatedly to set low expectations. He knows how not to get sacked. God knows how he got the board to extend him, but he did and that means he's got them around his finger too.

Going 6-18 would be an abject failure. But I still don't think they'd sack him.

I think Gutho would be a good 5/8, he is still necessary in the team. Holmes who knows at fullback maybe, he certainly isn't set the world on fire in the centres but then who is. We have to get some electric exciting players not also rans.

I can’t get behind that aye, he’s a great clubman but he’s just not athletic enough anymore

There’s zero run threat, f*cking tragic signing because Flanno was panicking and needed a kill

If we put Gutho 6 over LKT then it’s the nail in the coffin for LKT as well

Why did Ennis swap suli and holmes? Or was it young or was it flanno? Stupid decision. Attack has looked dreadful since Ennis has taken over. Atleast last year we had some structure in the attacking 20.

Kyle has gotten even worse. Gutho is as Mailroomsgi Mailroomsgi says above and moving Holmes to the other side is a real head scratcher. Also second-rowers should play for 80 minutes. If Luciano can't do it, drop him for Halangahu or Tsuogranis. Don't bring him off and stick Hamish on an edge.

When I first heard we were going to sign Gutho, I wasn't for it. While at Parra I thought Gutho lacked X factor that I want in a fullback. Parra had already spoken of wanting a fullback with more X factor than Gutho. I think Sloan was even mentioned as a possible alternative to Gutho for them. I also thought we were doing Parra a favour taking him off their hands and off there salary cap. Ryles had said he was going to play Gutho at lock, which I thought was a stupid idea. I also wasn't happy about us paying 900K a season for Gutho. I also wasn't a fan of us signing Cook either. Again, I think we did Souths a favour taking him off their books/salary cap. They were both unwanted by their current clubs and were effectively "off cuts"

Then after we signed him, I gave it some further thought. I had already thought we lacked leadership, with Hunt captain. Then Hunt and Lomax both left, who were our 2 highest paid players and 2 of our most senior players. They both already wanted out before Flanno took over. So our leadership was even more lacking. Signing Gutho and Cook did provide us with some much needed leadership and Holmes as well, who is apparently on 1 mil a season, which I think is massive overs. We had lots of money to spend and no one of quality wanting to sign with us. I saw Gutho and Cook as stop gap solutions until we could sign some more quality players and the youngsters become more experienced. We also needed a different fullback than Sloan. I want you all to think of what our team would have looked like without Gutho, Cook and Holmes there the last 2 years.

I was extremely surprised that we signed Koloamatangi. He will be massive for us next year.

I want you all to think what we would have looked like with Dean Young or Ben Hornby as our coach. I don't think they would have had any better pulling power than Flanno did. We probably wouldn't have got Holmes either. Maybe Dean Young would have got Holmes?

I continue to point out that many young aspiring coaches knocked us back this decade. It was always going to take time for us to turn things around, that that was only a maybe as well. We have also had many good players knock us back over the last few years, including Campbell, Fonua Blake, Kikau, Addo Carr, Dearden and Manu who I can name off the top of my head and other lesser players such as Tracey, Tunuva, Doueihi, Hiroti and LeoThompson. We have had a lot of knock backs from coaches and players.

Luciano has been one of our few better players. Holmes doesn't have the fitness for fullback anymore. Gutho is usually the only one actually backing up on potential offloads.

I think you’ll find there’s a DIFFERENCE between the club officially offering a contract and said player knocking us back compared to media dribble/Frank Facer fantasy island world where said player knocked us back. Your list of players knocking us back is absurd in my opinion.

I agree that second rowers should be able to play 80 minutes. Luciano would be better suited to the prop rotation, starting for the first 20 minutes then having a break and coming back on for the last 20 minutes or so.
