SGI NSW Cup
Hard to get motivation to watch todays games after last night.. but a few flegg notes (8-18 Loss):
  • 13-odd injuries to first grade.. is stripping every grade of quality, this Flegg side is basically a lot of the leftover SG Ball kids now who didn't get opportunity earlier, even Rubie, Fagalilo, Hutchinson, Alhazim, Treweek, Lyric, Saifiti.. theyre all up in reserve grade today.
  • Camera was right on the sideline almost.. really crisp vision and could hear all the aggro out there.. plenty of feeling between these sides.. both out of finals contention I guess and frustrated.
  • Had a few opportunities early but just didn't quite come up with the ball.. and we sort of gave them the early running, racking up that 14-0 scoreline...
  • Eden Hodges who I've only seen a handful of times as a 6, made a good fist of centre, running good lines, almost had 2 tries, just couldn't get the ball down on 1 of them.
  • Afu I had to double check it was him, looks slimmed down perhaps, or maybe just everyone else has grown..
  • Reed is dangerous as always.. I would like to see him go up a grade if possible, I mean probably only thru injury, but few times he's created a little bit of space for TPH, but TPH cant punch his nose through a gap.. he's too easy to tackles. Note: Just saw Reed is 18th man in Cup.
  • Was an odd hail break @ the 62min mark.... eventually play resumed though, we did eventually score with Reed to Rumble with an acrobatic put down in the corner.. but 77th minute.. 8-14.... we had 1 last chance attacking with 1min to go.. but wasn't to be.. too little too late.

So in Cup we have these players up from Flegg:
Saifiti Jr, Lyric, Liu, Treweek, Alhazaim, Fagalilo, Hutchinson, Rubie, Reed (18th)

Missing are:
Williams, Muhleissen

Those last 2 could just be injuries... and I dont see any middles being rested.. seems like they will all play and if we need someone next week in 1st grade, whoever is fit with dispensation.. Lawrie and Molo would be 2 of them hopefully.

Note: Game is delayed, assume weather or cleanup from the hail.. but looked sunny once Flegg got back out there.

Delayed NSW Cup game notes (6-22 Loss):
  • Game was delayed due to the earlier Lightning Storm.
  • Some of the U21 Flegg names that have been pushed into NSW Cup today:
    Saifiti Jr, Lyric, Treweek, Alhazaim, Fagalilo, Hutchinson, Rubie, Reed (18th man)
  • F*** me, Alhazaim has looked great early, thick body not getting pushed back, but he just got coat-hangered HIA 5mins into the game by Hetherington.. fmd... no sinbin.
  • Lots of first graders in this Newcastle team vs our Flegg guys.. Fletcher Hunt as we've seen in 1sts is a beast in the air and we couldn't stop him leaping up high to take a Hastings kick on our tryline... 0-6.
  • First grade quality high completion game even in slippery conditions.. brutal kicking grind with Hastings vs Ilias basically.. still 0-6 at half time.. some close calls but missing a bit of finishing.. and Hastings has the superior kicking game also so we are pinned in our back end, really only Ramsey is getting us out of things with his pace..
  • Can't be a coincidence that Ilias is doing all the kicking and playmaking today.. Glover normally takes the lead.. haven't managed to score a point yet either.
  • Seems to be a disconnection between Saifiti and whoever is passing him the ball.. I assume its him at fault but a lot of balls are going into touch without him getting a finger on it... otherwise though the kid has nailed everything else defensively etc..
  • The BarTV feed dropped out here.. so can only go off the NSWRLTV site.. but Knights went on to score 2 tries and be up 16-0 before a late consolation try to Ilias in the 76th minute.. and then a Knights one on full time..
  • We had plenty of chances but we have no crispness in attack, they have handled us easily bundling us into touch... Ilias has been in everything.. and basically 0 points scored tells us everything.. nothing we tried worked, tbf Newcastle were rly good defensively.. they were really up today..... they must have minimal injuries to be fielding a side like this.
  • Definitely nervous times I think with the injury crisis.. and who do we play moving forward.. who drops back from 1st grade after R27.. need to get Glovers hands on the ball more imo.. even better if we could get Reed in.. he will create.. but its a big call ahead of finals and no cup experience.

Yes absolutely. Reed can still shine even when his team is depleted. Ilias hasn’t shown that skill set.

Any injuries to our Top 4 halves over recent months.. or even a few losses.. and we probably have moved Reed up well before now.. but now were facing an interesting challenge.. big call to move him now.. I think hes up for it, but he wont have any synergy.. Glover also does a lot of last ditch defence..

The impact of missing Mulheissen doesnt help either.. hes a real rock in the ctr with lots of experience..

He’d be a good straight swap for Allan on the wing I reckon.

Sadly Dolphins have moved on junior tupou as they think highly of Naufahu. He’s more of a centre than winger but been really good in the small sample size in NRL

With Bostock back next year + Trai Fuller maybe they move Naufahu on? (They just re-signed him til end of 2027 so probably not)

Love is a powerful negotiation tactic Mr Anderson…..

They have Isaako too. Almost certainly the top point scorer again this year. Bostock himself might be a chance of coming back.

fark I just realised the dolphins are where Indies brother is .. fark.. what a sh*t sandwich it would be if the dolphins in qld end up with both locally bred bostocks.
