Recruitment and Retention 2028

With November 1 looming - it will be interesting to see who the Dragons could look at signing for 2028 and beyond. One guy that would be great to have return to the Dragons is of course Jack Bostock. If he doesn't commit to the Dolphins by Nov 1 he will be go on the open market to test his value and any club chasing him will have to make a really decent offer to secure his services now that his value has gone way up after playing Origin and now for Australia in the World Cup. Any offer will be subject to the Dolphins being given the chance to counter any offers in the cooling off period.

If Bostock goes onto the open market I sincerely hope that Anderson chases him and corners him to make a deal to come back to us - he is the guy that will be our new Mark Gasnier if he does come.

I’m not as informed on the Garrick situation when he slipped through the cracks all those years ago but man it would have been nice to have him/bostock/lomax/Tamale all kicking around in the OB’s for us today

I think the thing with Bostock is his stocks are so high right now because he had a really good end to the season

I do think he’s more of an excellent winger than centre, similar to Lomax. Huge aerial threat and great yardage carries. Not particularly quick and doesn’t get beat in the air by his opposing winger

I think if dolphins or us pay 750k + for him then it’s an overpay for the player he is currently

That being said I would love him back at the club lol

Was pondering Jacks value earlier... hes not a herbie or a toia or a hammer or a MarkN.. ya know.. like hes not an x-factor generational type talent.. tbf those levels of talent should all be on 1.1m or more... but Jack is kind of the prototype default outside back in the modern game.. tall.. pretty quick.. strong.. aerial skills.. hes definitely a step up from the other OB's in our squad.. Sami would be comparable 'as a pure winger'.. but Jack has 6 years on Sami.... i.e. Jacks best period is about to start at age 23.

But what is he worth? Surely we can pay more than the dolphins with that roster of theirs.. but were gonna have to pay up if we want to move him out of where hes happy.. and I do wonder what the Dolphins are paying.. have heard 825k (assumably thats 2028 and post cap increase).. and thats probably the equivalent of 620k in todays money.. that seems very reasonable.. it would be similar to what we pay Suli.. hell we had Sloan on 500k also... a bargain given Jack did make the origin squad... fark and apparently hes in the aussie squad too... this is bumping his value..

How high we are willing to go I dunno.. to me again.. we need centres.. if hes a legit ctr all good.. if hes rly just a winger (Lomax style).. I know hes a solid one.. but I dunno how high I'd go.. someone like Toby Rumble could be our right winger within 12mths.. faster version of Bostock potentially.. but a lot to prove still.. but a low budget option.. but if we pay 900k (Dolphins offer + 75k) or even 950k.... then we are cap locked.. and it will cost us in other positions.. considering there are a lot of NRL wingers on less than 500k who are very very good.. thats a lot to make up elsewhere...

The other problem is I rly dont think he has any interest in coming home (curious what the family situation is), so unless were gonna crush the other offers he has.. I mean the most positive thing ive heard out of his mouth about his old club is 'I dont hate the club or anything', I mean geez Jack.. wonderful.

Bostock is Zac Lomax 2.0. A very good winger but just an ok centre.

He’s more complete than Lomax IMO, Lomax playing on the left side of the field had nothing

He was a completely right sided player only and offered nothing else

Bostock has more qualities and can play in more zones + he’s a better centre from what I’ve seen in first grade than anything Lomax produced

I wonder if you'd care to revise this statement lol
wish I'd waited a few hours.. man of the match too... didnt even know he was in the squad till half way thru my post!

But still lol.. still dont have him in the same league, but hes solid as f*** and probably just added another 75-100k to his pricetag..

The Boss will want more money for sure. I now can't see him re-signing with the Dolphins before Nov 1. His manager will be testing the market and will play it tough in any negotiations.

Bostock is Zac Lomax 2.0. A very good winger but just an ok centre.
Wild take. He's just turned 23 and he's doing things (at the elite level, mind) that Lomax couldn't dream of. When the Phins moved him to centre this year they won every single game until the Prelim. Lomax wishes he was Bostock.

Anyway, yeah. He's sort of now gone from a signing that would be like "wow what a sensational signing" to "holy fkn shit that one of the greatest recruitment coups in the history of the game". Seems rather unlikely

A big upgrade for sure but still a better winger than centre. He played really well in Origin on the wing as well. He runs hard like Lomax and has a pretty good passing game like Lomax and is good in the air like Lomax. As far as beating players one on one with footwork and speed like Farnworth and McClean do, I haven't seen it. Not saying it doesn't happen, just saying I haven't seen it.
