Recruitment & Retention 2027

We had not made the semi for 5 years before Flanno took over. That's half a decade. When Flanno took over, we weren't looking like making the semis. Before Flanno took over, I was already thinking I may not see Saints win another comp in the next 38 years or so.

As for Marshall. I didn't think it was a good idea for Wests to appoint him as coach, with no prior coaching experience. There are still people who are questioning if Marshall can coach, including Wests fans (he calls them Tigers). The fact that he has been able to recruit well has certainly improved his chances of be successful. I was talking to a Wests fan this morning and he doesn't think they will make the top 8 this year. He said they might finish around 8th to 10th, but injuries to Taylan May and Luai don't help their chances. Players such as Makasini coming along help their chances and Samuela Fainu developing also help their chances. They will certainly be much better positioned next year, than when Marshall took over. Like Flanno, this is Marshall's 3rd year as coach, so I probably would give him until 2028 if I was in charge of Wests.

How long do Parra give Ryles?
How long do the Gold Coast give Hannay?
How long do Newy give Holbrook?
How long do WA give Meninga
How long do Papa New Guinea give Peters?
How long do Nth Qld give their next coach?

The Wests fan thinks we should be located/based at Kogarah.
Yes, and 2 coaches were sacked in that time.

I have no idea about the other contracts but except for Meninga and Peters, they are all doing much better than Flanno. Seibold has been 2nd worse of active coaches but still well ahead of Flanno.

I think the heat is well and truly up for Payten and Seibold. Flanno would be number 3 easily but he’s definitely not helping himself. Big 3 weeks ahead for the above 3 coaches

There is no need to compare Flanno to other coaches. The only question is: is he doing a good job? Just ignore the whataboutism.

Flanno is not in danger. The other 2 were not extended last year and will lose their jobs soon.

Yeah we were going to give him 900k a season but didn't know where we would play him, maybe wing. FMD.

Looks like we are entering the news cycle of make up anything to put shit on the Dragons.

Media do it because they know we have so many dumb fans that eat it up.
I said, "probably not true".

You think Seibold is well ahead of Flanno? lol Based on what? lol
Seibold's first season coaching Manly was 2023, this is now his 4th year as coach and they don't look to be improving or have anything to look forward to. Manly have recruited Brooks and Fogerty with Seibold as coach. I am struggling to name any other players they have recruited with Seibold as coach. Can you imagine this forum if we recruited Luke Brooks? lol Their recruitment has been very poor since Seibold took over and they are located in one of the most attractive locations in Australia. Some call it God's country. I think we will be much better positioned next year than Manly currently are or will be next year. Manly are just better located than us. Seibold and Payten are currently the 2 favourites to be the first coach sacked this year. I think Manly fans wish they got Flanno instead of Seibold. I keep saying, wait until next year for us to bear fruit. We should have Reed and Acko as our halves by then, with Kyle not there. We will also have Koloamatangi as one of our prop. I bet Manly would love to have him coming to them next year. I would take Acko over Fogerty. We still need some more good signings. I keep saying Jenkins would be a good signing. Now that he is playing so well and looks to have secured a permanent position at Penrith, he may be harder to get. I would be seeing if Souths would be interested in releasing Graham and if he would be interested in signing with us. Maybe with Cook, Sua and Koloamatangi here, that could help us get Graham?

BTW Today, I asked my mate who is a Wests fan what he thinks of Bula and he was so so about him, but said he wasn't worth big money, certainly not 800K or 900K. I think he wants better than Bula.

Reminder Benji is also coming off a lower base. 3 wooden spoons….. we weren’t that bad at the start. And we are worse now.
We finished second last on the ladder the year before Flanno took over and were either favourites or second favourites for the wooden spoon in 24, 25 and 26. We weren't favourites or second favourites for the spoon because Flanno was coach, it was because of the roster he inherited.

They did make finals in his tenture. Seebs demise is his affiliation with Moses, just like Payten. Jenkins is the beneficiary of a class Penrith system. Couldn’t crack the Knights spoon team last year. Probably would not thrive here

Yep, the consensus at the time was what the hell are manly thinking.

Seibold will never get another head coaching gig after manly sack him

Manly have been so poorly run recently, they’ve been winning games on muscle memory from the few outstanding players they’ve had since 2015

Ever since the penns decided to phase Scott Fulton(who recruited basically all their good players, some have left now as well) they’ve been on a downward trajectory and no that their in the bottom end of the table it’s incredibly hard to work your way out of there

I had Jenkins in my Supercoach team last year and had a close look at him. He was playing very well and was unlucky to be dropped for the finals. I was saying we should sign him before the season started. He is currently the leading try scorer in the comp with 8 tries in 3 games. He would be a quality signing who can also play centre and played a game at fullback for Penrith last year and acquitted himself well on that occasion. He is a much better player than the one he was when he was at Newcastle.

Wonder if Ennis is a shout to replace Seebs
Looking at their current roster, would Ennis want the job. I think any coach would need a few years to turn things around for them. An injury to Turbo puts them even further back and based off history, that injury isn't far away. They would be hoping Joe Walsh turns out to be a star.

Big job no doubt. He said on the panel Joey’s ready. He’d know what they have in the young kids coming through to know if it’s salvageable
