James Schiller anyone?? Could do alot worse and much better than what we currently have. Not on huge dollars, big, fast. Not everyone’s cup of tea. Should be playing 1st grade but won’t crack the Newwy team at the moment. His wheels would destroy all of our outside backs bar maybe Sloan

Haven't seen him play for a number of years. He's a great athlete. We should be trying to get several cheap OBs that we can have ready in case of injury. The important thing is that they are receptive to coaching and able to execute the defensive gameplan.

This is true, Thurston/Cronk and Moses/Cleary in the origin stage have proven that

Metcalf has the qualities of a great 6 so I have no doubt that if Reed was good enough to start in 2028 that Metcalf could ‘pivot’ to the 6 rule or vice versa and they could make it work just fine
This is something that I have seen and decided to put in this thread about Metcalf.

Luke Metcalf has primarily played as a five-eighth (#6) during his junior career and early Warriors stint, but recently played halfback (#7) before a 2026 injury. While seen as a talented pivot, Metcalf prefers playing halfback and, as of May 2026, is exploring options after being asked to play five-eighth upon returning from injury.

What a great day for us. Light at the end of the tunnel sort of stuff. People crying out for an outside back signing need to realise there is still some real solid options on the market for next year. It’s a weird feeling that in such a terrible season we have probably had the most positive news in one season then we’ve had in the past 5 combined.

I’m shocked dragons can actually sign players right now, with the state of the club and no coach locked in for 2027. Ando and Tim must be doing wonders
Ando and Watsford did say when they came to the Club that the aim is to sign a marquee halfback and looks like they have now that stubborn Flanno isn't around to keep Kyle in the halves. Flanno wanted Kyle and Atkinson. I'm not sure about Atkinson.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have secured the services of Luke Metcalf on a three-year deal from next season.

Metcalf will join the club from the Warriors and has agreed to terms through the end of the 2029 NRL season.

Dragons Chief Executive Officer Tim Watsford said Metcalf’s signing was another important boost for the club.

“Luke is a player who brings creativity and confidence to our football program,” Watsford said.

“To be able to bring him into the club for the next three years is a significant outcome for us.

“He has shown he can influence games with the ball in hand, and we believe his best football is still in front of him. This is another important step in building a squad that supports our local talent with strategic additions, allowing the playing group to grow together and deliver the kind of football our members and fans want to see.”

Metcalf said he was excited to join the Dragons and help the club on its path back towards the top of the NRL.

I’m really excited to be joining the Dragons and grateful for the opportunity,” Metcalf said.

“It’s a proud club with a huge supporter base, and I’m looking forward to meeting the boys, getting to work and earning the respect of the players, staff and fans.

“I intend to give my all to the Warriors for the remainder of this season before taking the next step in my career. It will be an honour to pull on the Red V and do everything I can to help the club move forward.”
