Recruitment & Retention 2027

BekB

SGI Jersey Flegg
Hammoud played U19's in 2024... so would be 21, 22 next year.. thats almost old enough really to be first grade backup.. needs to play some cup obviously first (and stop getting injured).

Hodges I had to go searching cause I remember him just turning up in Flegg last year out of nowhere.. but he did play a few U19 games for Illawarra in 2024 also.. only off the bench though.. so he also would be around 21, 22 next year.. so again he will also be in cup and hopefully starting to prove himself.. need to remove ONeill out of the equation.. and wouldnt surprise me if LKT gets an offer elsewhere.. especially if we dont think hes the one.. problem is he has quite a few years experience on the other boys. Hodges could also potentially play 7 yet.. still tbd.. suppose Hammoud could also..
Watching Hammond play 7 in second half definitely made a difference ball speed alone was nice to watch. Marley just seems so clunky his passes go to ground a lot hospital balls I honestly don’t think he is improving but is younger 19 so a few more years in Flegg but Hodges and Shadi are a great halves pairing

Current Top30 outside backs

The Good
Drinkwater, Sami, Holmes

The Bad
Gutherson, Fale, Tu, Suli, Atkinson (if he doesnt play halves)

The yet to be decided
Buchanan

Then we have the likes of Heidke, Tsougrannis

What a cluster

really need a minimum of two more and up to four depending on shifting out Suli/Nuffo

Anyone with an ounce of creativity or management is 100 times better than what we have.

We keep looking at people to blame for our poor form of last two decades or so. I say pinpoint those that arranged this meeting of two clubs, because the JV has been a monumental FAILURE.
27 yrs, only a piddling 12 final series, including one grand final and one Premiership win. Compare that with our previous 27 yrs before this failure, 17 finals, 10 grand finals, won five.

Read he is still 20, potentially? The guy has skill the likes of Hunt, Flanagan, Atkinson could only dream about. Despite wearing #6 for Flegg he is their prime play maker and makes McLaren look like a passenger. But with Metcalf slated to play #7 and signed for three yrs, ditto Reed the other ahead of him in the pecking order, there does not appear to be a future for Hodges, at least an immediate one with us in NRL. As soon as any other clubs head honchos catch wind of Hodges ability he will be on their radar. If we wanted to keep him from being poached upgrade him and put him in our 30 as I reckon he has the versatility to be a more than useful utility for either outside backs or the spine.

There goes Mug again with the sanctimonious ROFL. Try debating me instead pal. Reckon there'd be plenty of Red V old timers out there that would agree with my view.

It's been a tremendous success IMO because we are still in the competition and are now set up for long-term, sustained success. I just still can't believe Deano was given the job with his track record. Maybe he's not all that bad. Surely DA had a lot of input and if he's a weak coach without much authority, all the better for DA to do his thing. Also have the COE and judging by Flegg, a very good pathways system in place. Things are looking up. Without the JV, I don't think either team would've survived.

Nathan Lawson has been granted an immediate release from the club to pursue an opportunity in Rugby Sevens.
He never quite fitted into league because outside backs are generally ignored, so is returning to the yawnion format that allows a player to spread his wings and evidently he has pace to burn which we did not exploit.

We got told Lawson had great pace but in the times he could have showed it he had nothing. In the times I watched him play he got run down quite easily. As I said before another Flanno star. Waste of effort.
