I find it absolutely embarrasing that a journalist, specifically Sean Teuma who is a specialist in either rugby union or junior rugby league - I forget which one it is, can get shit like this wrong

Journalism is in the gutter, particularly sports journalism. People getting their degrees out of cereal boxes
Like are they allowed to published what they want without even checking it seems absurd to me oh let’s post this today

Didn't seem any hint of an extended deal in the mention of 27/28 Top 30... perhaps some (or all) parties want to see how the preseason and years is panning out before committing/pricing for a longer deal.. but hes already a long way in front of the Bostock situation... and hopefully extended in the first few months of the 2027 season.

Just to note that there seems to be more incremental kind of changes happening as spots open.. train and trials become devs.. a dev can be switched to Top 30.. which then opens up another dev spot.. I don't mind it cause there is opportunity.. and we can be nimble.. I mean I would have sworn blind that Heidke was ready to be a Top30 centre in our squad in 2025.. but its 18mths later and still in progress.. TRumble might take off next year.. or he might need longer.. the forwards are always hard to time.. someone like weatherall signed to 4yrs at a similar age..

It's hard cause u wanna lock em all up but u need to be nimble too... I keep coming back to Toya, he has rly thrown a hand grenade and blown up the expectations of what a young kid can do, but hes also a unique case... the way he moves is like nothing Ive seen.. hes going to murder us in a maroon jersey for 10-15yrs to come.. but in general there is more room for teenagers in the NRL squads.. its the result of a faster game + spread of talent due to expansion.

Bostock contract $$$ going down

Yeah, but that knock on has been ruled as a penalty all year, fijian slapped the arm not making genuine attempt to tackle. I mean i like that it ended up a knock on - it should always be that, but the bunker looked at it and made that decision in complete defiance to how it has been ruled all year.

How rare is it for a 17 year-old to be in the top 30? I don't have much of an idea about any other clubs.

You can't be in the top 30 until you are18.
Even if he is not being promoted to top 30 he would still needs to sign updated contract when he turns 18.

The club will also have to get permission from the NRL for him to train fulltime while he is only 17.

Just get a copy of the letter Nick filled in for Suaallii (or however you spell his name) .. They allowed him to debut in NRL at 17 ..

If he is born in Jan then the training with the squad thing shouldnt be too hard to manage across the line. A few weeks full time training before christmas thats about it isnt it? Or do they return to training in the new year before his birthday?
