Recruitment & Retention 2027

I'm thinking that with all this stuff about Bostock being "already signed" and not staying at the Dolphins come 2028 will result in any deals being pulled off the table. With Daniel Anderson in charge of recruitment, we usually don't know until it is a done deal and it is confirmed on the Dragons website. All these rumours are just rumours as far as I am concerned and anything like what is being doled out in the media to me might turn Bostock off coming to us if in fact there is some "unofficial" deal struck.

Just don't get your hopes up just yet folks is what I say.

Couldnt work out why we would be chasing MBurton other than a centre if we miss Bostock... but hes an expensive one and I dunno not particularly athletic.

Bostock def leaving is interesting, seems like something is done.. qn is whether its us or he has a preffered club.

No one else is going for Bostock other than us right? Parra are occupied with Best

Seems like it is actually happening
My bet is Souffs will let Mitchell go and sign Bostock.

100% an option.. Bostock is in demand and he loves Wayne.. he genuinely doesnt seem to have any love for his old home so its really only if we are clearly the most compelling offer..

Where will guys like Latrell and Walker end up though is fascinating.. all that said Souths have Latrell v2 in their ranks right, and they always seem to have someone who murders us in lower grades... plus they need spine players.. can thry rly throw big dollars at Bostock? They also have Haas on the cap now.

Wayne knows how to get the players he really wants. He was able to get Payne Haas and cannot see him losing out on Bostock. Mitchell will be let go for sure. He spends more time on the sidelines or sitting elsewhere at the games rather than playing so not worth the coin and is wasted. Bostock can play centre and wing and maybe even fullback just what Wayne wants.

I know Big Rig gets a lot of love on this forum, but him and another saying Bostock is signed @850k for 3yrs come Nov 1 (Id assume with a ratchet).. we shall see... some sort of other big news to come also.. not sure if its sponsor or players.. I mean a bit should be happening in the next 2 weeks I reckon... possibly we have some players going early also.. free up space/cash..

He isn't even allowed to talk to, let alone sign until this Sunday. I think Big Wrong is still just throwing stuff out there in the hope something sticks.

Maybe. But with Sam Walker now on the market and a lot of clubs looking for a top line halfback I imagine there are a lot of clubs who may have been interested in Bostock now turning their attention to a halfback instead of a centre/winger.

Once JAC gets the punt, I wonder if the eels will be interested in one of our OBs. Maybe a Tu, Suli or Fale? I can't see Holmes moving considering his close mate is with us & Young is in a win now mode. Gutho left the Eels, so that's a no.

its not just him though that quoted the numbers.. and a few better sources (journos included) have said Jack is definitely leaving.. so im starting to believe the dots are connecting.. its possible though that the 3yrs @850k is our 'offer' and not necessarily an accepted offer..

Maybe the dolphins are resigned to losing herbie & bostock.. but they can keep their spine players like hammer and Katoa.. and whoever else.. I did think theyd keep 1 of those centres though.

I would believe he is leaving. Something like a representative of him has had a conversion with one or more clubs. I can't get on board with the idea he's already signed.

Yes Eric, it is somewhat dubious that he has signed but maybe point 3 below could be what has occurred but I doubt it.

Under NRL rules, players cannot officially negotiate or sign with rival clubs until November 1 in the final year of their current contract (e.g., a player off-contract at the end of 2027 can negotiate with other clubs starting November 1, 2026).

Key Rules and Exceptions Before November 1:
    • The Final 12 Months Rule: Players are legally locked into their current clubs and cannot enter formal negotiations with rival teams until the 12-month countdown begins on November 1.
    • Incumbent Club Negotiations: A player's current (incumbent) club is allowed to negotiate and re-sign them at any time before November 1.
    • Written Permission Exception: Rival clubs can negotiate with a contracted player before November 1 only if they have formal written permission from the player's current club.
    • Public Courting & Anti-Tampering: Under stricter anti-tampering rules introduced by the NRL (following high-profile sagas like Lachlan Galvin), rival clubs, officials, and agents are banned from publicly courting or approaching contracted players or rival clubs about potential moves before they officially hit the open market.
    • Cooling-Off Periods / Matching Rights: When an offer from a rival club is formally lodged, current rules include provisions like a 10-day cooling-off or matching period where the incumbent club has a window to counter-offer.
    • Salary Cap Milestones: Clubs must have a minimum of 24 of their Top 30 players contracted by November 1 each year.

No word of Bostock getting permission to negotiate before Nov 1.
