Round 10: St. George Illawarra v Newcastle

This makes no sense. Just like you can't take SOO off NSW or QLD, you can't take the Dragons v Roosters game off the Dragons (or Roosters). It's not "an Anzac day game". It is "the Dragons v Roosters Anzac day game". These 2 teams are constitutive of the occassion.
I get your point Puff, but the NRL can then announce another 2 teams in the premier timeslot and have us play on another day that isnt ANZAC day.

They could also put Victoria against WA in the current SOO timeslot. The Anzac Day game just is Dragons v Roosters. It's not like there is an abstract Anzac slot that they look for teams to fill.
The game is now managed by TV rights, if the media decides that the Dragons v Roosters game is providing a very poor spectacle, which it is, then I guarantee you we will be moved, and it will have NRL backing.

I am extremely confident that Dragons v Roosters will be on at 4 O'Clock at Allianz next year. I am willing to bet a large sum of money on it.

if you want to bet a large sum of money on a team that has lost a premier game in the last three years by being abominable and the game is over in the first 20 min then good luck to you. Did you ever think what the TV rights provider would like for a National free to air premier game, I would assume its a considerable amount more than your large sum of money. But hey if you're happy with your team getting pumped every year by 60 and its visible nationally, then knock yourself out
I think the major point you may have missed is that the TV rights provider nor major sponsors would want people switching off their TV's 20min into the game just to watch an episode of "Home and Away" , do you get the point where money comes from, where the NRL gets its money from where they pay the clubs. The AFL are looking at it and I'm sure the NRL will as well. Suffice to say yes they probably will be there next year but another performance like the last 3 years, well we shall see what happens.

I have a question for you , have you attended one of these games recently ?

I know where the NRL gets it's money from. Despite the fact that the Dragons were 0-7 going into the game, and that most experts expected them to get flogged, the TV ratings were very good. Why? Not because a struggling team was playing a very strong team that was likely to flog them, but because of the tradition.

I haven't been to the Anzac game in the last couple of years. The most recent Anzac games I have been to were in 2023 and in 2024.

I assume you mean Tradition like the ANZAC tradition, like the fighting spirit that is supposed to be displayed. I'm afraid I will have to agree to disagree, tradition is not paying the bills anytime soon. You may want to check which club had the steepest decline in crowd numbers over the last couple of years.
And thankyou for answering my question, I was live in 2025 plus previous years, I was in uniform and had done the March, entry into the ground for me and my family (5) was over $500 not to mention other expenses. I'm sort of glad I had other work commitments this year, I'll leave it at that.

Unfortunately the spoon this year looks almost certain. GC seem to have been improving lately. Who else is going to challenge for the spoon?

It's ok. It is what it is. Tigers got the spoon for how many years in a row until only 1.5 years ago? It looks to me like Penrith are going to have one GF spot and Tigers, Broncos, Warriors fighting it out for the other.
My crystal ball, which is pretty unreliable, tells me we will make a late surge and slide into 16th spot. It doesn't tell me whether this will impact decisions regarding the future coaching.
