Round 11 v Panthers Sunday

Dainel Saifiti, Jacob Saifiti and Mitch Barnett made their debuts that year
The point I was trying to make is that it would be highly unfair that our forwards should be associated with this years debacle. I suppose its a team sport but still the way the backs have let the forwards down is criminal, and there nothing they or anyone else can do about it. Yes they have to undeservedly go through the pain to enjoy the spoils of years to come hopefully.

SGI NSW Cup

This bloody ref has had it in for us since the comp started in Vegas, the bastard. Remember this?

In the 88th minute of the opening-round match, referee Grant Atkins controversially penalized Dragons forward Ryan Couchman for an illegal strip on Bronson Xerri in golden point. The penalty gifted Bulldogs captain Stephen Crichton the match-winning field goal, sealing a 15-14 victory in Las Vegas. [1, 2]
The penalty was highly contentious and directly decided the outcome of the game. Here are the key details surrounding the flashpoint and its aftermath: [1]
  • The Incident: With mere seconds left on the clock in extra time, Couchman made a tackle on Xerri, dislodging the ball. While many players, commentators, and fans argued it was simply a "loose carry" from Xerri, Atkins ruled it an illegal strip.
  • Rule Changes: The controversial decision fell under a new directive issued to coaches earlier that week. The NRL had altered the interpretation of stealing the ball, meaning defenders gripping, pulling, or making specific actions to dislodge the ball could be penalized. Because the Dragons had already used their captain's challenge, they could not contest the call.
  • Coach's Reaction: St George Illawarra head coach Shane Flanagan was furious in his post-match press conference, asserting it was "a loose carry every day of the week" and that the game was "not decided in the right way".
  • Escalation: The Dragons heavily contested the officiating—losing the penalty count 9-3—and escalated their concerns to NRL management over several key rulings.
I really hope that Atkins never officiates any on field or off field games for us ever again.
