Round 4 v Titans

,My final word on this club is we have not won a game or sung a song in 2 months of football. We are embarrassing, having great juniors means f@&k all, oh how the mighty have fallen. The players themselves have not had a win in 2 months. The Dragons fans are in for a long season, and yet nothing from admin unlike Manly our board are a bunch of soft cocks. The next time I hear “we are taking the Dragons to new places” have a look at where the Dragons are at the bottom of the ladder with no get out plan,no leadership no nothing. Now the famous one line we have to take accountability rears its ugly head. When has that ever happened or when will it ever happen ?

I'm just going to say, it looked like we were a struggling team without our 2 best players: Ryan and Toby Couchman.

What is the thinking behind starting Stewart on the bench? He's more likely than Sele for example to break the line coming on after 20 min? True but he's also more likely in the first 20 min.
In the old days. The best players started and the backups came off the bench. But the game has changed. Stewart off the bench makes sense. The rationale is: he is not going to play the full 80 so get Sele to play the first 20 and whack some blokes. Then put Stewart on and leave him on until he is too fatigued to get the job done. Why not start him instead? Well, Stewart, with his ball-playing can open up our attack. But attack is more effective against a tired defence. So we get more out of Stewart in the last 20 minutes of the first half than the first 20. On the other hand, Sele is big and physical, fearless well suited to the first 20. It's a smart allocation of resources.

We do the same with Ryan Couchman. Guler starts for him, plays a similar role to Sele. Ryan comes on and plays more minutes than Guler.

Liddle too is best used against tired defenders.

We will run into a problem when Egan comes back. We will want all 4 of these (Stewart, R. Couchman, Liddle, Egan) to get on the field. But with the new 6 man bench, we might lose an OB and have to put an OB on. I suspect that, when all 4 are available, one of them will start. Probably will be Stewart.

They are good players and would have tightened the middle somewhat but ultimately i dont think we missed them enough to change the result.
Forwards were good enough, the backs were not ... same story as last week.
I disagree but we can agree to disagree amicably on this point. Their directness in attack and their defensive capabilities could have helped us limp over the line

Don't be sorry, I was there it was atrocious but I believe had the Couchmans been there it could have given us more impetus in the forwards
You mentioned us going sideways last night, Jo. I agree. If you look at some of the tries we have scored this year, they have come by moving the ball to the edge after one of the Couchmans collapsed the defence with a straight run. Sua's try against Parra is an example.

Analysis = true

Atkinson had a shocker so did Kyle again. Our wingers:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. Jeez Gutho was disappointing last night. I've been full of praise for him but last night he looked old and slow. Holmes had a few mistakes again and didn't look like a marquee centre. Buchanan hardly saw the ball and missed that tackle which led to their 3rd try. Though there were 2 in that tackle for memory.

It's just a very, very bad backline and Flanno only has himself to blame for assembling such a backline.

Absolutely back in my day we use to call it the see-saw effect where sides move the ball across the width of the park looking to run around a lazy defensive line or a staggered line. Not much has changed

yep ... and the use of inside/unders is designed to try and compress the middle and create that space a bit wider ... but the team is just bad ... the passing is horrible and not out in front, so much momentum lost and the halves/centres sliding in possession destroys us ...

We got it right once in the 3rd minute (also we were deeper there) .. then nothing.

What an absolutely unexciting game this was. Yes it was a bit suspenseful waiting for things to happen but both sides squandered a lot of ball by making plenty of unforced errors. Too many 6 agains. Our attack was abysmal and the players should be ashamed of themselves as well as the coaches for a lack lustre game.

We can dissect the team and their performaces all we like but this has all the hallmarks of a souless rudderless team.
The coach is solely to blame, I noticed his lack of will and energy the week before and this has to transpire to the team.
Some on here have mentioned his relationship with player agents etc not being great or non existent.
Let's do a Manly and pay him out, the team needs new energy and guidance with modern day tactics.
And hopefully a new approach on youth and skills in the backs.

Needs to happen now!

It was me that peptides incident scarred him for life with a great number of players managers especially those who had players involved in that disgraceful and dark history of the game.

Does anyone think Flanno can turn it around from here?
