Round 5 v Cowboys

The problem introducing young rising stars into our current squad is that they will be being introduced into a team that currently has a losing culture.

It can break those youngsters or make those youngsters. In my experience if you are going to introduce rising stars it has to be in bulk. So no 1 this week, 1 next month, etc, it defeats the purpose.

If those run on players are not performing then they need to be dropped. Looking at the last 2 games 3 players are holding their spots on current form in my view, Stewart, Couchman and Leilua.

Throw in Atkinson and then perhaps Cook on the fringes the rest well if you had ready made replacement's you would certainly consider using them.

The problem is who in ressies is good enough to step up and pull on a 1sts jersey. It takes courage as a coach to weild the axe before ultimately the axe falls on the coach himself.

I'm usually among the most aggressive when it comes to promoting young players into a struggling team. The way Flanno took so long to give Egan a chance and the way he kept Couchmans in NSW Cup so long in 2024 was criminal incompetence in my opinion. But for Reed, no, not in this team. Give him at least half a season in a our winning Cup team.

His position is untenable now Jo, so who cares what he does, the season is gone !!!

Yep .. ignore the two hookers ...

You need to pick 8 forwards and to me our best 8 forwards are
Stewart/SuA/Leilua/Toby/Loko/Jake/Ryan and Sele

so if that is your options you then put them in the best spots and build a game plan .. and it would have to be a mobile fast game plan with a lot of tip ons

SuA
hooker
Toby
Leilua
Jake
Stewart

Loko
Ryan
Sele

Obvioulsly with Ryan injured you need to use one of Lawrie/Guler/Kerr in that role which sucks.
next year (if we keep them) the 8 players become KK/Toby/Egan/Halangahu/Stewart - Loko/Ryan/One of Luc or Sua depending on the bears and recruitment

Time to pick the best players and mould them into the team not just say Guler and Cake are our most experienced props they start at prop.

The key to a team like that though is a first touch halfback who actually moves them around and gets teh play one pass wider into smaller collisions.

Loko, Jake and Kade have played together in Flegg and a little in Ressies, so they know each others game. Makes sense then to bring that trio in together. We'd all like for them to bide their time in the cooler cauldron of lower grade but the simple fact is we need this injection of talented youth now. Our reputation is in tatters.

That team deserved all the booing that was thrown at them both at HT and FT, for the patrons that forked out whatever the price of a ticket was, it was disgraceful. For 2 weeks in a row now people have paid to see a Dragons NRL side and what they got was a bumbling fumbling rabble that looked like it would struggle in 3rd grade. Sad to see at our home but in this case totally justified.

People are starting to question all the hype that went on in the pre-season and now what gets dished up in the first 5 rounds. Surely its embarrassing for the Dragons not to do something. They delayed it last week and look at what they got this week.
